Thumbs down I’m officially done with wood.

Wandered into my office the other day and found my Martin on the floor having been knocked over and banged into by cleaning staff. Thank goodness for insurance....... Goodbye final wood acoustic......

Sorry for your loss. Looked like a really nice guitar. You just never know.

Sorry for your loss, but at least it looks semi-easily repairable. If you like having your guitar out, like a lot of us do, Hercules wall hanger would prevent that from ever happening again.

I’ve got the Hercules hangers at home. This was on a floor stand in my office but cleaning staff had an unfortunate accident....... Just brutal but things happen.

Yeowch! Sorry for what happened there; guitar abuse is never pretty. For the record, while carbon fiber is tough, it isn't impervious to damage. I haven't drop-tested mine... while I think it would be tougher than wood, I can't say from experience.

For sure but between its increased toughness (not indestructible but tougher than wood) and the whole humidity thing, I’m done. CF all the way moving forward.

That’s too bad. As has been suggested, it should be a relatively easy fix for a skilled luthier and is likely worth keeping since the repaired damage will probably affect buyer interest and value. I really like CF guitars for all they offer including their unique, yet desirable tones, but I will never be without wood guitars and the tones they offer. Having the variety is nice...wouldn’t want to be without either.

Assuming you’ve already been investigating CF guitars options, which makes/models are you considering, or have already decided on?

CF = Carbon Fiber which is the guitar build medium that this subforum is all about (+ other composite materials such as eKoa used by Blackbird Guitars). Reviewing the threads in this section of the forum are great links to become familiar with the technology, materials, brands/models. Such guitars are high quality with unique tones and are not affected by environmental conditions.

I dropped my Adamas SMT in Japan on my way to play for a small festival and it's never looked the same. Sounds fine, but there were some bits that flew off and were never seen again.

I keep a Martin D Jr in my office, in a case, with a humidifier. It previously suffered a back crack that I repaired.

Today I came in and opened the case, the crack on the back has popped completely open, there is a large open crack on one side, and the front is cracking. This is with a humidifier that I filled with water yesterday.

I live in South Dakota and the weather here in the winter is unpredictable, I think I need to invest in carbon.
