My first guitar teacher used to tell me all the time that you can make a living playing covers, but it isn't pretty. He did it, and it was a constant hustle, gig to gig, band to band, scraping by playing weddings and dances. he used to say that it only took a moment of inspiration mixed with luck to write that one great song. There was a guy who aspired to be a one-hit wonder.

If you saw my set list, you'd wonder if I was really a solo performer.

You can make just about any song work with just acoustic guitar and voice. That's what's so great about the instrument; it lends itself to so many styles. The key is in the arrangement and being confident in your delivery.

I suspect that a moment of inspiration and some luck conspiring to enable one to write / release / become well remunerated and well known for one song would in itself open up the opportunity to become far more than a one hit wonder.

To me the list should be what is important/fun for you to play - not just what everyone else does. If you want "others'" songs you can google top 100 bar songs and you'll get the list of the most popular songs being played.

I'm finding out that this is going to be quite a chore to edit alone. I'm not sure if this will work or not, but I created a group on diigo. It may not work, we'll have to test it and see. Hopefully you guys can edit the list as songs come to you. The address for the group is posted below.

Since I created the group, I don't know yet if anyone else can edit the list. Someone please let me know if you can or can't. If you cannot edit the list, I KNOW that there will be an online solution for creating a great reference list. Stixy would probably work if this doesn't.
