Sounds like your news feed was using click bait headlines, because his quote on the subject in no way says they have to take it because he's a star. He was on a radio show with Jim Gray, and was asked about the perception that he gets a lot of favorable roughing calls. He responded that he's not sure where that comes from, as he had one roughing the passer call all year. Jim Gray looked it up, and he is 9th on the list of roughing the passer calls over the past ten years. He admitted that he gets away with a lot of smack talking. Here's his exact quote:

"I do know that [referees] probably let me get away with a lot of unsportsmanlike conduct. You know, talking smack to the other team and talking smack to the refs when I don’t think I get the right call. I’m kind of a pain in their butt, if you don’t already know that."

I find nothing boastful or entitled in his reply. Here's the video quote if you want to see / hear the actual response:

Frankly, I don't quite understand all the negatives you guys are saying about Rodgers. I listen to everyone of his press conferences and of all the athletes I have listened to through the years, he gives the most completely thought out answers of anyone I have heard. None of this, one day at a time, I gave 110%, kind of answers. He answers thoughtfully and has a tolerance for all the questions.

I sometimes wonder if out perceptions of people are made but what we are told is true vs. listening and reading what he really says in the context he says them and what his teammates and coaches say about him. Like I say, I listen to every presser and I find him quite enjoyable. He is appreciative of his time in the NFL, his team, his O-line, his defense, he constantly praises his teammates etc.

I think he has been demonized by the press for whatever reason and this was before his controversy this year.

To fully answer this would require getting into areas we can’t get into on AGF. Let’s just say he said a lot of stuff this year about topics other than football that a number of people were really angered by, me among them. And that’s all I’ll say about that.

Last comment until Sunday night. Looks like Nick Bosa is cleared to play. (yea) Not sure about Randall Cobb.

I can honestly say that, while each does have an underdog and a favorite, actually see them all as to close to call.

Which is as it should be. Play on.

He was a hero that everyone loved…for a while. And then things changed, and he was demonized. Happens all the time: idealize and then denigrate/devalue.

The “general public” puts people on a pedestal, and the folks on the pedestal eventually fall off (because of their human frailties), or they get knocked off by the public that put them there. It is pretty much inevitable, a cycle that is rooted in the psychology of those who haven’t gotten to the point where they see others in a less black-or-white perspective. If you are free from these kinds of dynamics, then you are the happier for it.

The press panders to people’s wish to idealize, and panders to the intimately related wish to bring the idealized other “down to earth”. I think it is a mistake to blame the press for something that the general public wants to see and participate in. People love to believe they know what is going on inside of someone that they have never met or interacted with…and they will, often make their declarations with great certainty: “He is __________(fill in the blank with any particular personality trait, positive or negative)”.

It is rather rare to stick with what is immediately available: he is an excellent player, who performs well in press conferences, and who is well liked by many of his team mates and coaches.

In the case of Rogers, the well-publicized and public airing of his rift with his family of origin has played a roll in attracting certain fantasies about the kind of person he is, as has his deceptiveness earlier this year.

Even though I'm a Patriots fan I would like to see the Bills make it out of the AFC this year. Bills/Chiefs will be a huge game... although they're all huge games, aren't they.

All the games this weekend have different story lines and look to be great games.
I'll be pulling for the Rams and Bills. Best of luck to all your teams. Let's enjoy!

But what he’s done in his first nearly two years at Tampa at his advanced age has put those questions fully to rest. Now I wonder if Belichek can ever be nearly as successful without Brady as he was with him. He was originally thought of as a great defensive coach, but what Buffalo did to his defense last week was a total dismantling. So I’m less sure about him than I was. But to the extent I was reserving my judgement about Brady, I’m not anymore. Not my favorite QB, but clearly the greatest winner / champion / competitor the game has ever seen, and likely ever will.

Man... the frequency this is asked and how often its debated is puzzling to me. They're both GOATs. Bill taught Brady the game very well and he's transferring that to the Bucs. But, Brady is also the GOAT and the GOAT gong to a loaded team, talent wise, is going to be an easier deal than leaving a team, with not much talent to begin with on offesne, without its GOAT QB.

Bill's an amazing coach (I'd say the GOAT), but you can't go from 0 to 100 instantly. Pats did very well in the first real year of a rebuild. Better than most teams at year 5 of a rebuild. Give Bill a few more years and you'll see what he can do.

As far as what Buffalo did to them, of course, exposed the Pat's weakness in the D. They're all Bill's guys... intelligent and savvy. But they're a bit old and slow and get exposed against fast offenses. They're perfectly fine against "normal" offenses as you saw all season long. You can't rebuild an offense and defense in the same year. I think Bill was thinking it's more important to get a QB with some weapons to get him established before looking at the D which he kind of trusted anyhow. It's nearly assured he'll look to getting younger at D next year.

Anyhow, the answer to this question is that it was both of them that were responsible for the Pats run.

Come on Dru. (I'm kind of kidding here...) As a Pats fan as well, we can't root for the Bills. Root for the Titans with a former Pat legend as HC,

Crazy that Brady is older than all of the HC left (besided Arians, obviously) left in the NFC.

I find it even crazier that his own OC entered the NFL AFTER him, retired, now is an established OC and might even be HC next year.

Rob, the reason I'm rooting for the Bills is because I'm rooting against the Chiefs.

That's crazy.

Here's another stunning fact... this is Brady's 17th Divisional Playoff Game. He's 14-2 including winning his last 9 in a row.

Game one is in the books…..what a game….congrats to Cincinnati…the young guns coming out of the AFC should be of grave concern for whoever comes out of the NFC….
