String Question for Taylor 600-Series Owners (v2)
Hey all,
In 2015 I bought my first upper-end acoustic, a Taylor 618e version 2 (my other was 24 bucks from Woolworth when I was 7, seriously). I've used medium gauge Phosphorous Elixirs all this time because Taylor says use Phosphorous Elixirs. Overall they're fine but sometimes sound a little "muddy" for lack of a better description. I did try John Pearse strings once and all the bass response went out the window, although I liked the top end. I got the 618e for the big sound so I don't want to lose the bottom end fullness. Anyone with a 600 series use anything else that you really fell in love with?

I have 2 614's, a 2015 and a 2017, and I use PB Elixir HD Lights (13-53) on them. That's not saying much, I guess, because I use the same strings on all of my acoustics. I do like them though.
The one exception is the Taylor Mini I have in Nashville tuning, I obviously don't use the same strings for that. |

My 615ce (classic jumbo shape, maple body) wears medium gauge PB Elixir's most of the time. I like to have the mediums on it to drive the top better. This is an admittedly bright guitar, but the big body helps fill in the low end to balance things out.
It may have a light gauge set on it at the moment, as someone was test driving it recently for potential purchase. |

I don't have a Taylor 618 ( but I'd like one!) but I do have 3 maple jumbo's.
- Huss & Dalton MJ has John Pearse Pure Nickels - Lights - Epiphone EJ-200 has DR Sunbeams - Lights - Guild F-412 has D'Addario Nickel Bronze
