I would be hesitant to take the medical advice of an insurance company. Decisions of this nature need to be made after a great deal of "homework" and working with a competent professional team. Getting some second opinions doesn't hurt, either.

It's my understanding that hybrids are best for stable hearing losses, not progressive losses. If the loss is progressive, you will eventually have to switch to a regular CI anyway.

As varve said, this is a bit more substantial than deciding on Martin vs. Collings.

A good starting point would be the web sites of the two major players in the cochlear implant industry, Cochlear and Advanced Bionics. Read them forwards, backwards and sideways.

Sorry for pulling up a old post but just wanted to thank all who replied to it.
I might have to go down this route and having information from guitar players helps greatly!!
