Today I finally picked up my Casino, 10-46 EXL110 strings - set up even better with 1,5 mm on high e and 2 mm on low e. Relief and nut flawless (although nut was already good). Can play e-shape minor chords up and down the neck effortlessly… For me it couldn’t be better and I don’t care if tone would be “better” with heavier flat wounds - this is what I need now in my development!

I am even happier now than before!!!

Very nice and glad you are happy! This is my Casino that I bought last year. I ended up with Lollar P90s in it and it sounds great!20210909_213139.jpg

It's an AC 30S1, so basically an AC30 but with a single speaker and only one channel.

Cool! If I ever get myself a tube amp something like this is on top of my list! I suppose it works quite well- but is it too loud for home practice?

A real hidden gem if you're a Gretsch player BTW, and my personal fave among the current Vox lineup - more focused and tighter-sounding than the 2x12" (which IME makes it an excellent match for the new-generation Gretsch factory pickups - Blacktop RI, Mega'Tron, Super Hi-lo'Tron, et al.), and, with Vox tube combos being historically and notoriously heavy, the 20-pound weight savings over the Beatle box (still no lightweight at 54 pounds, though - the only reason I don't own one) is more than welcome...

IME if you're primarily a "clean" player - country, early R&R/R&B, surf, first-wave British Invasion, jazz, funk, world music - absolutely not; though some might disagree, high power in a guitar amp isn't necessarily about massive amounts of gain and distortion at OSHA-hazard sound-pressure levels . Keep in mind that when Leo Fender, Everett Hull (Ampeg) and Dick Denney (Vox) designed the first high-power guitar amps in the late-50's days of primitive live-sound systems, it was with the purpose of providing lots of dynamic range and headroom for the pop styles of the day in larger performance venues; one advantage most modern amps have over their vintage predecessors is the presence of input gain and master volume controls which, as you acquire familiarity with your amp of choice, will IME allow you (in all but the most extreme cases) to dial in your desired tone at a volume level that won't have the local villagers at your door with torches and pitchforks . FWIW I'm primarily a clean player myself, and I've been practicing with medium- to high-power combo amps (up to 120W) for the greater part of my life without incurring either hearing loss or the wrath of my neighbors - the latter being no mean feat when you live in a Brooklyn apartment building as I did...

As Steve noted above, not at all. It's a great sounding amp at bedroom levels. Now, if you need screaming distorted tones, it can do that too, but will need to be above bedroom levels. Lightly distorted, edge of breakup stuff works great on it at bedroom levels though.

Gotta love a Casino into a Vox — I use the sadly-discontinued, too-good-for-its-own-good Pathfinder 15R.

Try the similarly-sized, tube-powered AC10 - a bit pricey thanks to the recent hike, but a real little tone monster that can take you deep into early Beatles territory...

+1 to Mr. DeRosa’s recommendation for a Vox Ac10c1. 28 lbs. of closed back cabinet goodness with 10watts of Genuine Vox TopBoost tube power. A master volume helps add the meat and potatoes without upsetting the family upstairs. The reverb is better than the reviews say. Did someone say chime?

I've tried the AC10 a few times. I liked it a lot. I also like the little Super Beetle mini stack. That said, I think the Pathfinder 15R is where it's at for me, regardless of price. It might be the single best bang for buck purchase I've ever made. I used to mic it up for small club gigs back when I was playing in a band and always got inquiries from other bands' guitarists who would ask about the amp under the assumption it was a little tube Vox like the hand-wired AC4 or something.
