My thoughts on Leo's music - it depends on how you choose to play. Early on, he used fingerpicks and thumbpick. I'm not sure of the exact timeframe, but somewhere along the way he went from that to more of just bare fingers and thumbpick. I feel like his playing slowed down some at that point. It evolved, matured if you will. Personally I prefer the early stuff. I like that hard edge the picks give it, and the adrenaline laced drive his music had then.
Please note that I am NOT saying the early music is better, just that it is what I prefer.

Ive always enjoyed the Mudlark lp from 1971. It has some other instruments on it, some classic tunes and the singing for my money is good.

Greenhouse is my personal favorite...that and 6 and 12 String Guitar are absolute essentials when it comes to Kottke, IMHO.

Greenhouse is actually kind of hard to find, or at least it was last time I looked. The song "Bean Time" is one of my all-time favorite solo pieces for arch-top/jazz box.

(My wife and I saw that show in Beverly, MA, and we thought it was actually kind of a disappointment. Leo opened. I felt it took a while for Leo to get going. His last few numbers were good, some with KW. We left during the second half when Keller Williams was soloing. I had never heard of Williams before the show. Not really that musical (to me), and the lyrics were all about him. He had an act and liked controlling the audience. The audience was a bit raucous during both sets. Maybe I'm too old. The last time I saw Leo was around 1985.)
Yeah Keller is a "cat"...I've seen him in a bunch of different incarnations some good some OK....We left in the middle of his set on this tour having been blown away by Leo

Thanks
Listen to it all. None I would tell u to avoid. I'm not into his collab with Mike Gordon (bass).

Just few of my faves:
Driver on Peculiaroso
All of Six Strings No Vocal
The video from Sessions at W 54Th, a PBS television show from 1997

Oh this is pointless. Listen to it all.

What he said. I saw Leo in the middle 80's in Heidelberg Germany in the chapel of a medieval (13th century) castle. That was a magical night.

John Stropes and I were teasing Leo the other night about this not-so-magical moment many years back on a bizarre TV show in Germany:
