Not sure if I like these strings. I just received a new Cordoba C12 that shipped with this set of strings. I'm going to see how they play in for the next week or so. I think for a really good player they would shine, but I think I need trebles that aren't as sharp sounding.
Does or has anyone else used these strings and what did you think of them?

I'm not sure if I've tried them but I really like the Savarez 510MR New Cristal/Alliance/Cantiga NT Guitar Strings which are currently on my Cabaret JB. They're nylon e an b, but a carbon g which I think gives more overall balance. The nylons are the same as on your guitar but I wouldn't consider them sharp. Certainly not like a carbon e.

I'll try a set of the Savarez 510MR, thanks. Do you have a link to them online? I'm having trouble finding them.

Just my take that the Savarez cristals are one of the best non-carbon, titanium, alt material treble out there. Brighter than typical nylon but nothing over the top. Also the material is ever so slightly smaller in diameter so you don't quite hit the tubby sounding stage that many traditional nylon trebles do.

I have used them. I had a GK-Studio Negra that came with them. I know a guy who has has a C10 that came with them. They work very well on both of those guitars IMO. I never found anything that worked better on my GK-Studio Negra when I had it. Dude tried to change to some lighter gauge strings with his C10 (I don't know if they were nylons or carbons), but they threw his intonation way out of wack, so I think he went back.

My C5 came with them. Within a couple of weeks one snapped when I wasn't around so I replaced it. A couple of weeks later another had killed itself and I decided to change brands. Both automatically snapping strings were wound. Apart from the self destruction they seemed fine to me.

I had a Cordoba GK Pro Negra a few years back, and I remember being completely underwhelmed by the stock 500CJ strings. Just dull and boring.
However, I just put a set on my Manuel Rodriguez Magistral and must say that I am really impressed with them. That guitar came with carbon trebles which sounded great, but I just can't get used to the hard feel. The 500CJ set really is a great match for that guitar (mine has a cedar top), the trebles are full sounding without being overly bright. My only negative is that the bass strings are probably the most squeaky and noisy I have ever experienced. Longevity has been above average also.

I have a Cordoba fusion maple 12 that these came on. I quite liked them but also tried the D'Addario Pro Arte Carbon EJ45FF Normal Tension and the Salvarez Corum Alliance 500AR Normal Tension. I much preferred the hand feel of the normal tension and the sound was less harsh on the trebles. My notes suggest there isn’t much sonic difference between the two sets of normal tension strings. No change is setup was required.
I also recall that a subtle change in right hand attack could tame the brightness, but in the end I couldn’t get that reliable enough and just opted to change the strings. Lazy, I know… Nail length/ shape and smoothness seemed to be a factor as well |

My C12 is a fairly new instrument (under a year old) and the top is still maturing, so at some point I may try something different. But for now the 510ARP set is my go-to string set. I also started using the 510ARP set on cedar topped Esteve Adalid. They sound okay but I may look elsewhere. Lastly, I'm using Savarez Cantiga Alliance 510AR's on a Yamaha SLG200NW. They produce a solid fundamental, plenty of bright ringing overtones, and they sustain like crazy. This is the exact sound I was hoping for when I bought the Yamaha Silent Guitar. |
