Thanks for sharing. I saw it done but with a studio setup, the expertise to avoid phasing and decent preamp. I have a zoom H6 which I am learning of its noise floor limitations 😀

Got it. Steel strings are also much louder making controlling room reflections more challenging I bet

For all those mics, you'd hope to get a more solid low end. I think there were some phase issues that thinned out the tone. Further proving that just because he knows how to play doesn't mean he's an equally talented engineer ![]()

Question for everyone:
1 very long microphone bar to place the 2 LDCs and SDCs on it like this one below (on one stand)? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071G2H4J7...v_ov_lig_dp_it OR get two not so long mic bars with two separate stands? thank you |

I think just two separate stands is more versatile, skipping the bar. But then I only record using spaced pairs or just one mic on one stand when it's mono.

We all want to make our recording space the easiest to set up and use. However the most profound lesson I have learned about mic positions(of which I learned right here on AGF recording) is how one inch difference in mic placement, or a slightly different angle can make a defining difference in your recorded sound. I have even tried to get creative with this one stand contraption. And...it kind of worked...giving me most of the variables that two separate stands have to offer. In the end..it was more hassle than it was worth. Still did not give me the freedom to change positions quickly and easily that two separate stands have to offer. Sometimes simple is better. As where this set up was complicated. With two separate stands you can change positions so easily. ![]() |

I agree too but was wondering if there was a more space saving option.

Another question - shall i go with this bar?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ND0AKV7...lig_dp_it&th=1 OR this one (i already have one of this already) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002ZO5Z4...roduct_details thank you |

If you recorded seated, you can save space (and money) by buying two short mic stands like these.

The stand you have can only support one mic, not even 1 pair unless I am missing something. |

I was going along with the suggestion for two stands being more versatile, rather than a bar. But if you're doing 4 mics at once, yeah, four stands, even little ones, isn't really practical.

I am not using 4 microphones at once, I am using a tereo pair at a time
