Default Dumb question of the day...

So, this is embarrassingly revealing of my lack of knowledge, but you gotta start somewhere. I am planning on buying the Scarlet 2i2 interface and a sE Electronics sE2200 Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone with Isolation Pack from Bh Photo. Trying to get away with one mic for voice and acoustic guitar, for now anyway. Do I need to buy cables? Or will these things come with cables, cable from the interface to my computer? from the speaker to the interface? Am I way off? TIA! - Leesa

You'll need a Mic (XLR) cable. If you are going to drive monitor speakers, you'll need those cables too (1/4"). Cable (USB) from the Scarlet to your computer is included.

If gear comes with cables the dealers/manufacturers will mention it. From what you are describing, you will need a cable from the computer interface to the computer (make sure the connecting ends fit the interface and computer connectors) and you will need a mic cable (most likely a three wire XLR male to XLR female cable designed for low level condenser microphone use, i.e., not a speaker cable).

As far as cables for the speaker(s) to the interface, yes you will need cables for that too. The connecting ends should be balanced (i.e., three-wire). They will need to be one of the following: (i) XLR male to XLR female, (ii) XLR male to TRS, (iii) XLR female to TRS, or (iv) TRS to TRS. Also, determine cable length needed.

What's in the box
  • Scarlett 2i2 3rd Generation
  • USB cable (Type C-A)

Line out is TRS, NOT xlr. Most monitors will be TRS in also.
