My first Pear guitar was also a 000. This very forum's JR gave it an award, I think it was "Founder's Choice". When JR played it at that Year's Woodstock event, the guitar visibly brought him to tears, in a good way. My second Pear was a single 0, and is owned by Ben McKee, a member of the somewhat successful musical endeavor "Imagine Dragons", who bought it on merit.
I have high hopes for this one, which I closed today:  It seems simple thing, but I have failed to get the Label and the Neck block to agree about the serial number more than once!

Walter is not your run of the mill guitar player. He has African influence and performs with renowned players from that region. Compared to much of what I’ve heard him do, the tunes I’ve shared here are almost a commercial sell out. In a good way, of course, and I have personally encouraged him to consider more accessible musical styles from our culture’s POV. When you consider that North America is actually a small proportion of the world population, my advice is not so relevant.

Bruce,
I've enjoyed watching your builds over the years but now that I am dabbling in building guitars myself I am seeing your pictures in a new light. What are your views on the purpose of tone bars? On a Martin there are two tone bars parallel to each other running to the edge of the top on the bass side. You've got one running that way but the second intercepts it at its midpoint and runs towards the treble side. My guess is the goal to make a more balanced, less bassy guitar but that is just a guess. I would love to hear your thoughts. Keith |

My tone bar variation does a better job of distributing the structure necessary to support the top membrane than the traditional parallel braces do, and at the same time they weigh several grams less right in the middle of the top where it matters most. IMO, of course.

From what I can tell, Walter Strauss's Dixie Flyer is in Double Drop D 7th tuning (DADGCD), capo on 2nd fret.

This week has had a lot of distraction so far: Tires and alignment on my car, followed by a new windshield today. In the middle Linda and I drove up to Tahoe to see snow. That's our first snow sighting since the Covid era began.
Koal may have liked it less than we did.  The pear's body is complete, and it's on to the neck:

My friend Richard Saslow came by today, for the 173rd or so time, to play my latest. He has the unique in my experience ability to start a tune and then rotate 90 degrees w/o missing a beat.
