This pedal adds an octave below your lowest note, it sounds great for Fingerstyle and also strumming (if you play cleanly). I used my Cole Clark Angel 2 BlBl for this video.

Aaron, thanks as always for a practical and well done review. I had very high hopes for the Boss OC-5 but found that the tracking for acoustic guitar was spotty and therefore unusable for me. Do you find that this pedal tracks well enough to be used live?

Oh yeah this works way better for me and is why I made the video. Like I say in the video you do have to play well, it can’t correct that.

Thanks Aaron, I've been curious about this pedal. I've found my own method involving a two string pickup under the E and A and running that through the EHX bass9 and some compression/EQ.

Aaron, how does this work for fingerstyle? You mentioned it, but I don't think you played anything that demo'd that?

I play fingerstyle and say it excels at that as it’s more accurate than strumming. I think it will work great for you as you are a very precise player.

Thanks for the demo, Aaron. I can imagine that would be a lot of fun for playing plugged in at home, or doing moderate volume gigs. On the other hand, it might not be of much use in situations where you need to use a low cut filter at 80Hz or higher. Conversely, that sub-octave might get you in trouble in venues with big subwoofers. (My vocal harmony pedal “adventures” had a problem with the sub-octave getting obnoxiously loud in some venues.)
Come to think of it, I still owe you a big “thank you” for introducing me to the Zoom A1-Four. That inexpensive little effects processor has been a big help for years now. THANK YOU. Last edited by guitaniac; 09-22-2023 at 01:49 AM. |
