When Luke approached me about doing this article, we chatted about how best to present the examples & decided to keep them as short as possible, while still being useful. We felt that it gets tiring listening through multiple long examples.

Nice article Steve! I too liked the short samples; for me it was easier to compare results.

I typically use an A-B spaced pair for solo home recordings. Your example looked and sounded really wide. I tend to like fairly narrow stereo width for solo acoustic guitar. My mic to mic spacing is typically around 75% of the distance to the guitar (i.e. somewhere in the range of 15” mic to mic spacing with 20” from guitar, to 21” mic to mic spacing with 28” from guitar). Do you remember the distance and spacing you used?

I didn't measure mic to mic, because that's just not consistent. I move them into the spot that sounds right & that's different for every guitar. You have to find the spot that sounds good & is far enough away from the other mic to avoid phase issues (unless you're doing a coincident or near coincident pair, like X/Y or ORTF).

I'm there with the spaced pair guys. I've tried different ways over the years, but unless there's a second acoustic in the mix, spaced pair is just about always what I prefer.
