Hmm. Not revolutionary, but a nice improvement on paper. 13dB more preamp gain, and for those who stress about levels and clipping, it has some safeguards. TBH I never felt setting proper levels was an issue, at least when recording myself, but there have been a few situations recording others where having some sort of clipping limiter would have saved a take.

Or just add a slight bit of EQ boost with a wide-ish Q from say 8 or 10 kHz to 12-14 kHz

I believe that was the 'air' ...now they've got another setting. Or maybe the combination of both ?

Well they claim a new air mode that emulates " the nice open presence" their big consoles of yesteryear May be a nice may be a gimmick testing will tell

If I was interested in the Gen 4 units I would be more interested in the claim of new better converters in the 2i2 and 4i4 claimed to be same converters as in the Focusrite Red Net interfaces
And better 4 th Gen pre amps ( said to have 69 db of input gain) and low distortion outputs for monitoring

that too...although I'm not sure mere mortals can actually hear that stuff...although the spec list looks nicer.

Well you might be surprised what "mere mortals" can hear once they develop their critical listening
That said it is often more a matter of what you are subconsciously not hearing, and while one may not actively notice it being better while listening to a better pre or converter, but more that you notice just a hint of something missing when you are not. Like for example presence

Here is one review worth watching IMO

I saw that. He gave them a positive review. And obviously the new specs are great. the higher the better. I'll be interested in their first one with adat. The 8i8 4thgen? Maybe someone who's acoustic guitar focused can review them, like Aero. Show how they sound recording with different mics as well.
