I thought I had found mic stand nirvana when I bought this pair of mic stands:
On Stage round base. I didn't think to find out where the slider sleeve in the mic started. It turns out the stand is a bit too high if I want the mics in close (like shoulder width) as it blocks the music stand. Something that expands from 2 feet to 4 feet would be nice though. I'll keep looking. I got out my two desk top stands and put them on the small stools I had bought for this purpose. I also raised the music stand so I'm not breathing down towards the mics. I have to record a few test things to see how it works out. (Something other than Lagrima ![]() Everything is subject to change though.

For solo guitar (seated), what works for me is low-profile stands meant for drums, like these:
https://www.amazon.com/DR-Pro-DR259-.../dp/B0018TG8M6 Perfect height, not too big and clunky in the room, and very stable. For heavy mics, I add a few of these on the feet: https://www.amazon.com/OnStage-CW-6-.../dp/B0010HCI66

You have to check the way they are constructed, but I have cut the upright tubes of a couple different manufacturer's mic stands to create shorter boom stands. Since I generally do gigs seated it works out well.

That's a good idea. I'll have to look at that.

Aloha Barry,
Howzit?!? I agree with Doug. The DR Pro LOW PROFILE 259 mic stands were the ones I used in my studio & also for live gigging at the end of my career. Tried 'em all. These worked best for me on SDC & LDC mic's: https://www.amazon.com/DR-Pro-DR259-.../dp/B0018TG8M6 They are strong & lower to the ground & don't take up too much space. Plus, they expand enough for me to use on an LDC vocal mic. Though I can't play much anymore, I keep my great PA set up in my living room along with a couple of those DR Pro 259's for the good day's when the finger neuropathy lets up a bit & I can squeeze out a few songs. Still can't believe the sound of my Pendulum SPS-1/ Custom Koa 803 Daedalus performance speaker rig. The Koa really classes up the room even if my playing & singing no longer do. Ha! All the best, Barry. alohachris |
