Emerald introduces a new awesome color: Cobalt Blue
I have just seen this on Emerald Guitar's facebook and i thought that it really should be shared with you. They introduced this new color. It looks amazing. usually i don't like painted guitars but this has really convinced me. And it really fits this model!

PK,
It's Alistairs best color yet! I love how he is able to paint it such that the weave still shows. Just beautiful.

That would still make sense since he would still have to spray the edge burst and clear coat over the colored CF. Perhaps Alistar will chime in and clarify.

But wrong! I just bought the Doubleneck earlier ths year. It was already built and I could have any color I wanted. I chose red, but any color was an option, he then painted it sent me pictures. Steve

He called it adding the skin: bet it is reflective material but maybe neutral and he sprays a semi clear color? I prefer to think of it as just part of the magic of the Emerald City.

Emerald do not use pre-painted fibers. of course, there are a lot of pre painted materials in the market. he has used several different techniques in the past, one of them is spraying the guitar with tint added to the high gloss finish (as Uncle Pauhana said). It is not a mystery as it is quite simple and the process is similar to what any other wooden guitar maker would do. With this technique you can still see the wood on a wooden guitar.
I've heard that he also uses/used other painting techniques too

this skin is not an extra layer of colored carbon fiber. on those guitars the paint is added after the guitar is finished. adding an extra layer of (painted) carbon fiber to an already finished guitar would be a nightmare of work and much more complicated
happy new year, my friends!

Here is a picture Alistair sent me after my guitar was painted. Clearly from the masked areas you can see it is red paint being applied. The sparkle is Leprechaun dust trapped between the paint and the carbon fiber. Only in the Emerald City.

All our guitars come out of the mould with a natural black carbon fibre look.
we dont use the colored fibres on these guitars although I have used these fibres in the past on custom projects, rather we use a transparent color in the top coat to create the colors. the color then is very much dependent on what you spray it over which is why it looks bright red on the masking tape and dark red over the carbon. Its the interaction between the color, the carbon and the ambient light that makes the color always seem different and fluid. I like how carbon looks in its natural form but I love how it looks when we add a little bit of color. Alistair Hay |
