Default This gizmo Irig

Anybody plugged an SM-57 into this and used it to record a video on an ipad, then used garage band to tweak if so desired?

Guy at Sweetwater thought this might be a good idea vs a shure MV-88 or the like.

It looks like you will still need a microphone preamp. This iRIG has an instrument level input but a microphone signal is far lower.

You would be better served by the iRig Pre HD.

These are good:

Same brand, more useful.

Does that allow a mic to be plugged in?

I had one of those for a while but could never get it to work very well. Had it plugged into my iMac running GB and could never get a reasonable signal level. It was always very low amplitude. Went back and forth with the IKM people but never got it working.

I use the iRig Pro duo. Love it.

Phantom power for a mic that requires it, and allows you to use two inputs at once. It’s a bit pricier, but also has independent level control.

That link looks crazy, it may be easier to search for IRig Pro Duo.

Good luck!

The triangle shaped bit is the mic. It's no Neumann but in any situation where I'm recording to the iPad it's certainly not the weakest link.

Flick through the pics to get a better idea.

The jack plugs into the iPad direct and the plastic box near the jack has a headphone socket for latency free monitoring.

[Edit] I see we have an overlap from the other thread so I'll not elaborate further here.

I use the single channel version of this regularly. It also allows for direct headphone monitoring (less latency). Simple, compact, battery powered... it does the job.
