I don't get it. I mean, it's yet another strat copy... I don't get why we need it, or why people are excited about it. I mean... I'm sure it's fine... good, even. But it's a really crowded market, and it's at a tough price point. I mean, is it that much better than a G&L Tribute Legacy?

It just seems very samey.

Two different points, really. I have no interest in it either for myself, but that's mostly just because I don't care for vintage specs (although I think that's changed a bit with the SE?) and I don't need an S-style guitar. If I did, I'd look for a used Suhr or Anderson.

But in terms of not "getting" why PRS would do it, my point is the sales are the explanation. It doesn't matter that it's not a bold leap forward in guitar design or construction, that it's "just another strat", or that the market's crowded. They've demonstrated that they can make an S-style at a price point (now two price points) that attracts buyers, and they seem to be selling them about as fast as they can make them.

I don't think there's anything other than that to "get.

Backwards, Lazy, Crowded , Samey ? (sounds like a great song hook)

Ok Lets step back a bit.....

Taking this perspective into the acoustic world,,, would it then not follow that nobody but Martin should be making a Dreadnought body style acoustic ? And so almost every other major acoustic manufacture, and most boutique mid and small builders, also look "samey" and "lazy" in a "really crowded market" ?

Obviously the bottom line is the bottom line, and I'm sure PRS did their market research.

No hey no reprimand and was not meaning to pile on .... I was simply trying to Zoom out into a broader context. Which all of us sometimes overlook (me included) when we are focused on a specific...

No reprimand intended, just discussion.

Here is a YouTube video of my guitar instructor reviewing the original PRS Silver Sky (I saw him gig with it in Tampa last weekend and it was great). He gives his opinion about it being another Strat copy at 11:24. I'm hoping he will do a review of the SE once he gets it.
