Default my son and I got hit by a tornado while in the car (edit: added photos in p.2)

We got hit by an EF-2 tornado here in Ottawa while in the car waiting for my wife on Friday. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottaw...zone-1.4834760

Car is destroyed after getting pummelled by flying trees and debris. 220 km/h winds. We got covered in glass head-to-toe but no major injuries. I'm trying to be strong for my family but there have been tears. Never thought this would happen to us. Worst day of my life.

Good grief! What a terrifying experience it must have been. I did not realize you were subject to tornadoes in Ottawa. Most important thing is that you and your family are alright. Take care of yourselves.

Wow! Sorry this happened.
You never think these things will happen to you.
Life is so random.

Sounds pretty traumatic to me....basically a brush with death. I'd feel pretty unnerved if it were me. I think taking care of your family can include working with the tears and unsettledness in an open and honest way....no need to be strong, because the time you needed be strong and clear-headed, and not panic, has past.

Wow - great to hear that you're both ok. I've followed the Ottawa tornado on the news.

Sounds just like a freight train when you're that close, but I was in the basement. I'll never forget that sound.
Glad to hear you all came through it OK.

Loudest thing I've heard plus the car was getting smashed with flying trees at the same time. All I could think about was my son while it was happening. Thank goodness my family is outwardly okay except for a few cuts and soreness. I'm happy the car didn't flip.

Wow, sounds scary. Cars can be replaced. Good to hear that you and your son are still with us.

How old is you son and how is he doing with the aftermath if this.

Hey Doug, glad you and family are ok. My wife and I live in the Chelsea area, soon to move to West Ottawa in a house we recently bought. Fortunately, both properties were unaffected, but a couple we know as best friends living in the Greenbank/Hunt Club area weren’t so lucky. A few years ago, they moved from another house a few blocks away and that house has serious roof and cars damage...so does their current home...some roof and windows damage and a car totalled in the driveway all caused by a large downed tree. My buddy was in his garage with the door open and says he thought a freight train was rolling through when all of a sudden his double garage opening was completely filled by the tree. We visited them yesterday and while driving through the neighbourhood, our friends fared rather well. A number of homes are totally destroyed, roofs gone. Power is getting restored, but over 170,000 were without power.

There is certainly an emotional after affect to something like this. I hope you and especially your kids who can be more affected will be just fine. Take care, and I hope life returns to normal asap.
