Default Coffeemaker Blues

Been using an inexpensive K-cup coffeemaker, worked well for about 6 months and died. Got another one and it died in a month.

Gave up today and forked over for a Keurig K50 Classic. Best Buy had them on sale so it wasn't that bad. Hopefully, this one will last a while. Might be the water around here but I go through these things in no time. I am always torn between getting a cheap one that I anticipate throwing away and buying a good one in hopes that it will last.

That's way to quick for two coffee makers. How much more expensive is the newer one compared to the other two?

On sale, it cost about what I put into the other two. Time will tell if its a better value, certainly works better.

Sorry to hear of your coffee maker troubles.

When it comes to coffee makers, we like K.I.S.S.
A stainless steel french press we own is on decade #3.

An AeroPress, we have now for two years, few moving parts & inexpensive investment for the return.
Both make outstanding coffee which can be customized to your desired strength and taste and are easy to clean

I've been using Keurig machines for over a decade in several housed and never had an issue with any of them.

French press tastes better and has far less mold than Keurig.

We’ve been using Keurig brand makers with well water run through a softener and have had no problems. We started with a small coffee maker then went to a larger one with a water reservoir.

I think fresh brewed tastes better than Keurig but I get up a lot earlier than my SO. The Keurig is more convenient than making two pots of coffee.

I got the coffee blues too. My Mr. Coffee burr grinder at home ain't grinding. I had to use the emergency backup bag of pre-ground coffee. The horror!

Got K-cup religion when I worked in the OR and we got one for the lounge. When you get a 10 minute break from a case at 3 AM you don't have time for French presses, grinders or even Mr. Coffee. K-cups get it done, fast and fresh. I got hopelessly hooked and now can't do anything else.

Default Via Columbia

I use Starbucks instant. You'd be surprised. It is very good, very quick and easy. Boil water. I microwave half and half in the bottom of the cup for 30 seconds, and empty the pouch over that, then add some boiling water, stir, add again. Doesn't take much longer than 30 seconds for the whole process.

Tried most varieties but prefer the Columbia.

Found some double walled glass mugs on Amazon that hold the heat longer.

I must be using the French Press wrong. It's a hassle to clean, and the coffee tasted terrible, like drip.

Yes, for me these are best for all kinds of reasons.

My Lady, bless her, is really into gadgets. She has a nice Keurig and some other hi-tech coffee maker.

I don't care for either, really. The K is a good machine but it's more expensive and seems wasteful with the used pods. There are some tasty pods out there though. Even the Walmart French Roast pods are decent.

But what I care about is good coffee in copious amounts and readily available.

A French press may be in my future, but for now I just asked for a bone simple, dirty cheap Mister Coffee. Something I can do cheap and easy, no bells or whistles, and just have a nice pot on all the time.

I'm in the Melitta #4 camp and enjoyed finding this in the paper.

For years we've travelled with a plastic cone and I recently learned Ortlieb makes a folding cone.

Used the My K-Cup I bought with the unit yesterday. Very strong, flavorful cup using very little ground coffee. Its a pretty overengineered piece as it is 3 parts but it works very well.

I use the coffee pods which are convenient (if a bit wasteful). When my machine gave up after five years I worked out I had spent around £3,000 on coffee over that period. As a pod machine commits you to buying a particular brand, if you have their machine you have to buy their coffee. With this in mind I thought they had a cheek charging so much for the machines so I emailed Lavazza and asked if they would give a discount on a machine so I might spend another £3,000 on their coffee.

They gave me a 25% discount on machine and a load of extra goodies.

I refuse to be a part of the pollution/k-cup problem...plus, my Technivorm MoccaMaster combined with home-roasted beans (Costa Rican, exclusively) makes the perfect cup of coffee...morning after morning after morning after...
