Default Short, simple classical fingerpicking pieces that are fun to play?

I spent a lot of years in bed due to chronic illness and I spent a lot of that time playing my guitar. Eventually I got pretty good at fingerpicking... but it's been a long time and I'd like to get back into it.

One of my favorite pieces ever is "Dee" by Randy Rhoads which appeared on Ozzy's first solo album Blizzard of Ozz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWO7ZiVbG0A

This song was my introduction to fingerpicking as a teenager and it's perfect for a beginner: it's only a minute long, pretty simple, and yet sounds great.

What other fingerpicking songs meet this criteria?

Hi Honk,

Great screen name, and welcome to the AGF!

My first tune was Freight Train. A year later and I still enjoy playing it pretty much every day.

Lots of lessons for it online, I learned Mark Hanson's version from his introduction to Travis Picking book first and have added some others for additional choruses.

Anything by Mississippi John Hurt is fun and there are some fairly simple arrangements of a lot of his tunes.

If you are more of a rocker then Dust in the Wind and Landslide seem to be favorites of a lot of people.

I just realized you said "classical" so I'm not sure if this stuff interests you or not....

Have fun with it!

All of the Sor Studies are quite musical, and not too difficult.

Tarrega's "Lagrima" is relatively short piece I bet you'd enjoy.

How about Shenandoah - I love the sounds of this and the way it rings but not too complex. https://youtu.be/xu_9OFVsZwM

Don't think these would qualify as "classical" guitar pieces but here are links to fingerstyle instrumentals of mine that are fun to play:

On my tabs page http://www.dcoombsguitar.com/Download1.html

are Feeling Free and Scamp

and in a thread on the forum an arrangement of mine of the theme from Mash

In addition to Tárrega's Lágrima, also check out his Adelita.

There was a recent thread on 'Hana' by Masaaki Kishibe. Beautiful piece that is not too difficult.

Relatively simple melodic pieces by Tarrega:

Lagrima
Adelita
Maria
Marieta
Prelude in D (Andante)
Prelude in D (Lento) - drop D
Capricho Arabe

There's also a couple of nice Chopin pieces transcribed by Tarrega for guitar:
Preludio no.7 (in drop D)
Waltz (lento, in E minor)

Bach:
Minuet in G
Bourree in E minor

Schumann:
Bagatelle

- and of course, the perennial favourite known variously as Spanish Ballad, Romanza or Spanish Romance.

Fernando Sor wrote countless studies, of course, but IMO most of them really are "studies", with less melodic content (less charm) than the above. All the above are, if anything simpler than Rhoads' "Dee", although one or two are longer.

If you want something a little more challenging, I'd suggest one of the Villa-Lobos Preludes. My favourite is no.5 in D:
