I really like the Retro/monel strings on some of my guitars, but not on my J45. I agree that they take longer than others to wear in and start to sound good, but they never got there on my J45.

I’m still upset about no longer having access to the Stock Masterbuilts. The GHS Bright Bronze are very close and the Mangans or Newtones too. Glad I bought a bunch before they were gone.

This is an interesting conversation. I have tried most of the strings mentioned here since I bought my J-45 in 2003. I was happiest when I found Elixir Nanoweb PB 12's, and I haven't wanted to try another string after that. I also use them on my '74 Dove Custom (spruce/maple) and have had equal aural happiness.
I don't see many players mentioning the Elixirs anymore, what gives?

I use Elixirs on my Taylor 314 and Martin Special 16 Rosewood. Taylor 314 has 80/20 nanowebs and Martin has PB nanowebs. They work very well with each instrument. But I agree I do not see much talk about those anymore.

Cool, well at least I'm not alone. Lol.. I will say that I wasn't a fan of Elixir, pre-nanoweb.

I agree, they just sucked too much tone out pre-nanoweb. Now they are just right for me and last a very long time.
