No upper transverse brace. Is this because the fingerboard isn't glued to the top and the CF struts make the UTB unnecessary? Also is the neck adjusted by sliding back and forth rather than tilting? Don't know if John is willing to share. Perhaps these are trade secrets.

Just re-read the thread, so please ignore my questions.

No secrets here! Your analysis is spot on, even before re reading the thread. Thanks for the critical look.

Smile Hmmm....

Good questions Dave.

The neck will adjust with the interior Walnut sliding block that moves up and down (if the guitar is laying in its back). Not a tilting motion. This mechanism is new for John and this axe will be the "prototype". We know there will be at least one other soon as my friend Steve/shorthand is getting an almost identical axe in BEAUTIFUL Koa and Cedar very soon. (He is stoked!)

And the Fretboard extension will float free of the top so I guess the transverse brace is not needed. Especially as the neck block has the CF struts to the waist.
John has done this on my last two and they sound SPECTACULAR.

Cheers

Paul

The top has joined the party! You can see the hole for the neck adjustment mechanism where the Fretboard extension will be. There will be one small hole in the center of the FB extension for the adjustment bolt.
Also, John is going to bind the soundhole with Walnut to match the other binding and bevels.
The current plan is to have more of his cool Spalted Maple from his yard for top purfling.

Cheers

Paul

John says: "Here is the first step binding the back bevel. It's got some accelerator on the wood because I superglue the purfling strips."

I say acceleration is good! Put the pedal to the purfling! Haha

Paul, knowing your ideas combined with John's skills, this guitar should be a monster Axe. Looks like it is coming together nicely and will continue to follow along in the progress. Thanks for sharing!!

Hey Mike! Thanks!!! John is working on your neck. May not be too late to ask for a slight asymmetrical carve! Just saying...

BIG back bevel is done! Getting close...20191013_151850.jpg

(John says ignore the line outside the cutaway)

That looks amazing. I think it will be a real masterpiece. I admit I did not expect the Spanish cedar to look THAT good.

Smile Thanks Jamiejoon

Hey Jamie.

I was pleasantly surprised myself with the nice figure in this SC.
Again, thanks to David at Terra Tonewoods for going the extra mile to search through about 250 sets to find this nicely quartersawn and figured wood. He has a lot of nice SC, and other cool tonewoods too.
Again, John now has a set as well. Of course his wood locker is a paradise of riches anyway! Hahahaha. No, Really!

Now I am trying to figure out if I can swing a trip across the country to be there for the neck carve! And just to check out the Asheville NC area, too.

Neck carves are critical! I think a trip across the country is totally in order here. The flight is probably not that much more expensive than shipping the guitar back if the neck carve isn't right. And you get to check out North Carolina. Seems like a win-win to me!

You may be right, Beth, but sloth and indolence win again for me! Hahaha. I am not going to N.C. But I AM sending John my fave neck (His instrument) to copy, more or less... fortunately John is less indolent than I!!! As you can see below.

Here are new pics for your viewing pleasure!!!20191027_113303.jpg20191027_113332.jpg20191027_113312.jpg

John says it will be off to Tony Ferguson (the Finish Wizard) soon...

Looks FINE to me! Thanks John!!!
