Default What Pieces are you Working On?

Preferably with a link to some music/tabs and a recording in case anyone else is interested.

I've been working on Robert Bowlin's wonderful song "Eastland Dream" lately.

Here is a video fo a great performance (this is most definitely NOT me).

And, as promised, a link to download the tabs, as a .zip file.

I've always wanted to play Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer", and have finally found an arrangement that seems to suit my fingers and ability.

It's on Musicnotes.com, so costs money - if you're so inclined, it's an easy search.

Gosh - I'm actually working on a ton of stuff. Maybe too much.

A few originals of my own, some hymns for church, an original from a girl our music director brought in, another original from another woman who I'm backing up on a gig (coming up in just 3 weeks!) along with music and harmony lyrics for a bunch of covers, including:

- Bruce Springsteen's version of "John Henry"
- Alison Kraus's version of "When You Say Nothing At All"
- Alison Kraus/Gillain Welch's version of "I'll Fly Away" from O Brother Where Art Thou
- Gillian Welch's version of "I Want To Play That Rock and Roll"
- the Decembrists' "Eli The Barrow Boy"
- Kasey Chambers' and Shane Nicholson's "Rattlin' Bones"

I've been an acoustic player for only a year and have devoted most of my time to Tommy Emmanuel's repertoire.

(The Man with the) Green Thumb
Windy & Warm
Questions
Since We Met
Drivetime
Stay Close to Me
Those Who Wait
I've Always Thought of You

The tablature is available from Mel Bay and I'm not aware of any free sources (although I'm sure it's out there).

In the "work in progress" department, I'm working on Asturias from Isaac Albeniz. I bought the book by Joseph Harris but free tabs can be found here: http://www.guitaretab.com/a/albeniz-isaac/345.html

I also like to play Romanza, which is the Fur Elise of classical guitar. It's corny but offers its share of challenges. I don't need tabs for this but you can find them here: http://www.guitaretab.com/m/misc-traditional/12558.html

Lastly, I like to play Manha de Carnaval by Luiz Bonfa. I play it by ear but there's plenty of tabs on the web as well.

I have a list of forty five fiddle tunes that I’m trying to memorize. That’s an hour and half a day right now.

There’s a few Mccoy Tyner tunes I’m trying to work into the set: Search For Peace and Blues On The Corner

Trying to get more comfortable improvising on Giant Steps and Nardis

I also have a list of about forty gypsy jazz tunes that I’m slowly working on. That’s not a daily thing.

Trying to flatpick my way through Carcassi op60 #7, and crosspicking Sor’s Study in B minor...

Note that the tab for Eastland Dream (at least the official one I've seen, haven't clicked your link yet but I'm guessing it's the same one ) was "rearranged" for fingerstyle as opposed to flatpicking, and definitely not true to how Robert plays it on "Soliloquy".

ohhh, and I'm working on Mike Dowling's arrangement of "I Wan'na be Like You".

The other day I was jamming on a little progression on my new little guitar, and this grasshopper crept up toward me. He'd take a few steps, stop... then rock side to side like he was dancing, then move a little closer. It was quite funny to watch and I started calling the song 'grasshopper boogie'.

I've just about got "Who will Save Your Soul" mastered. Finally. Now that I know how to sing and play I'm making progress!

I'm also very close to mastering "I'm Looking Through You". Just need to figure out how I want to strum it.

"Blackbird", "You were Meant for Me" and "Across the Universe" are songs I've been just starting to mess around with. Clearly, I'm a beginner.

I've recently been working on two songs from 'Best Traditonal Folk Solos' from Fingerstyle Curriculum. They're both pieces by Steven Eckels: one is Shady Grove and the other Oh Susanna.

I recently mastered Doug Young's wonderful DADGAD fingerstyle arrangement of Shenandoa, and now I'm working on his very cool DGDGAD arrangement of the Christmas song "Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella".

He has very helpfully put tablature for these and a few other arrangements up on his web site, and you can find videos of him playing these on YouTube. I really like his arrangements.

I'm also trying to develop my flatpicking a bit (I have hardly spent any time on flatpicking before), and I've been working on a flatpicking arrangement for the Irish tune Star of the County Down (which my wife and daughter play on flute and violin). I'm coming to the conclusion that some flatpicking/strumming accompaniment might be nice for some of the things we play together.

(But this weekend I'll be working on trying to decide whether the cedar/rosewood CJ Goodall I just bought (and will pick up on Friday) was really the right guitar to buy!)

Just finished nailing Hiroshi Masuda arrangement of Beatles "All My Loving". Here's the link. Love the bass line in the 2nd verse.

I'm working on a DADGAD tune - "Mo Ghille Mear" as recorded by William Coulter. It's just right for my level, not too hard, not too easy.

Here's a link to Coulter's website.
