I played this song for the first time a few days ago and I figured if I was gonna record it, I should do it while it still felt kind of raw, in case I somehow polished it up over time, because that would seriously miss the point!

Very cool, Ray! Nice job!

Thanks for listening Bob and Glenn. The fun thing about Petty is as good as most of his songs are, they also tend to be really easy to learn, so if you hear one (or remember one you hadn’t thought of in a long time), they tend to be pretty easy to get under your fingers. I literally played this one less than half a dozen time before I recorded it. In my youth, I knew it down to my DNA, so it didn’t take long for it to come back…

Wildflowers -This had already been posted in a stand alone thread prior to knowing about this Petty thread. So just adding here for continuity.

Default You and I Will Meet Again

Here’s one you don’t hear much, another little gem. I just stumbled on it this week, now I’ve got a massive earworm

Just trying to keep the thread alive!

Another great find Bob. That one I remember but never thought about trying to play it. Not sure if I will, but I definitely might. That was never my favorite TP album, but you're finding enough great stuff there that maybe I should reconsider it.

Anyway, you get full credit and/or blame for this one. You reintroduced me to this song last weekend, and I've been playing it to death all week, so I figured I'd record it to get it out of my system for a while. So here's my version of "King's Highway", complete with a second vocal on the choruses and a couple of sections of lead guitar. I recorded (the added tracks) and mixed this using AirPods and for some reason the vocal sounds pretty muted listening on speakers, but not really using AirPods, so if you have 'em...

Hey Ray, I’m glad to be your enabler

I played it on a speaker and AirPods and I agree it sounds better in the ears. The double track vocals and the guitar breaks really work well for you on this one. Bravo!

Thanks Joe. So lesser known that I'd totally forgotten about it until Bob posted it here a week or so ago. Now I can't seem to stop playing it...

Since finding this thread, I've been listening to Petty non-stop, what a catalog!
Current fave is Finding Wallflowers-Alternate Versions.

Thanks guys!
