Fishman Rare Earth single Coil
I purchased a used Fishmen Rare earth single coil pick up yesterday.
I use to have one but gave to to a friend. I have attached otto my Simon and Patrick dreadnough solid Cedar top guitar. It has a volume wheel which i love. This one seems slightly thinner in build then my previous one or am I imagining it. Was there an earlier model..plus this one seems to have a bit more headroom. It could be that the guitar is well built and naturally projects the sound well. Plus did the original single coil have a volume wheel ? When fingerpicking the sound is sweet. Dave Dave |

Fishman makes a bunch of different Rare Earth pickups. The passive series is called the Neo D. There are single and humbucking types.
The active series have a battery and usually a volume control. They are thinner than the Neo D series. Hope this helps. |

Actually, the volume wheel would indicate that you have the humbucker version, which is a good thing, since I always felt it had a much fuller and balanced sound than the single coil. It's more expensive, too. Only the active humbucker version offered the volume wheel. Earlier versions had a little toggle switch for Brightness, the volume wheel was a welcomed improvement.
I kept a Rare Earth pickup in my gear bag in case I ever had issues with my guitar's onboard electronics at a gig. I can recall more than once throwing the Fishman pickup onto the guitar when loud stage volume was causing my K&K pickup to feed back. I like the sound of the Rare Earth, especially going through an outboard preamp with a little mid range cut.
