Thanks, Alistair may be able to do some color testing on scrap pieces soon. I emailed him today that if the heartwood doesn't take/look right with red transparent that maybe an edge burst around the inside of the cross perimeter may be the way to go. An edge burst would make those filigree pop like realfire airbrushing.

I asked today if they can do a pinless bridge with a fan fret. I like slotted/ramped pin holes, it makes a much nicer string bridge break angle.

So, pin-less, or slotted and ramped ? I can’t see how you can have both (?)

Ramped slots are part of their pinless design. There's several pics on their website of it. Alistair emailed me back and said they can do that with a fan fretboard no problem.

I had said that I prefer a bass heavy sound, and he suggests a 25.5" - 26.5" scale length fan for that.

Now I have commit to a SL range. I'm leaning towards going with his recommendation. I don't see much of a downside to going with 25.5-26.5. A Martin D35 has a 25.4" Scale length, so the high E would have a similar tension on my pinky. The 26.5" bass side ought to project great. But, I am debating with myself on maybe dropping that range down a bit for playability on the high strings. I'll measure my guitars today to get a better focus on it.

Being in my 60's now, I'm not as studly as I used to be. Hey, that could be my next song 'Not As Studly As I Used To Be'.

Could even be a Toby Keith type of tune.

Seems to me that maybe a 24.7 treble to a 25.7 bass could be right in the comfort and tone zone.

How about a Rodney Carrington style song with a chorus of 'Women's Lib, has Liberated ME!'

Default Fretboard Radius

Found an interesting chart of FB radius used by different manufacturers.
https://www.thaliacapos.com/pages/fr...tar-make-model

It indicates Emerald and Journey use a 16" radius fretboard, 14" by CA and 20" by Rainsong.

My entire current stable of steel strings are listed as 16" radius boards. I should be good with this OEM spec.

I have played and liked a compound radius before. I'm going with a fan fret on my X20, so that may play a little bit like a compound radius.

You guys have any thoughts on fretboard radius preferences?

Jw;

It sounds as though you have found your preferred radius, I have no idea how that would work with a fan fret
