I met Gerry many years ago. His wife was having computer problems and he brought her laptop to me. I recognized him and told him how I loved his music.
He was quite floored that he had been recognized by some random dude in a computer repair shop in Virginia (he told me they owned a house a little ways away). He was very humble when I thanked him for all of the music. |

This group undoubtedly started my love of acoustic guitar. When a friend got me started playing at 15, we bought the songbooks for the 1st three albums and wore them out. So much fun and I've reaped the benefits of a lifetime of guitar journey.
Really should get the vinyl out and listen to the early ones again with old man ears. hehe |

One of those songs that made me want to learn to play. I'm guessing I'm not alone there. Also one of the first songs I could play along with.

About six months ago there was an AMERICA concert on TV (I believe it was The asxTV channel). It was filmed when the band was young but already established with their big hit songs in circulation, probably in the early 1980’s.
Now, I’ve always been a huge fan of AMERICA’s music, (Sister Golden Hair being one of my all time favorite songs), But seeing the video and finally putting faces to the voices was a very enjoyable experience! I promptly grabbed a guitar and learned the song. The chord progression is very pleasing to my ear. YouTube is a great source for some Old School AMERICA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oNULFXLuMc BLUES |

Nothing that clever I'm afraid. I'm a Friggin Old Guy (#01) in a young man's game. Kinda like rock and roll I suppose, despite what Bob Seger says.

The song “Riverside” is one that I usually play first when trying out an acoustic.

I might take this to Antiques Road Show. Rode hard and put away wet.

awesome band
In about 1976 or so they played a show in Arlington, Tx. My college room mate bought tickets so he could take a date.
That morning, i tried to jinx him. "I hope she gets sick and can't go," i told him. Later that day she did. And I got to see one helluva show! He still enjoyed it, but sure had an ugly date. |

Heard the first album playing in my local record store - remember them? I knew Horse With No Name but was totally captivated by the album and had to have it. The assistant looked really disappointed, turned out it was his favourite album and that was the store’s only copy. Anyway, we came to an arrangement; I stayed whilst he had a final listen and then took it home. Still a favourite 40 years on.

Sister Golden Hair was one of the songs that made young Master Fly fall in love with the sound of the acoustic guitar. See also: Jim Croce, Seals and Croft.
