Anyone know if Thomas Rein make many steel string instruments? Determining Value
I'm not sure if this is a question for the Custom Shop or the general forum but given that this is about a solo luthier, I figure I'll ask here. Moderator, feel free to shift.
I have a 1983 Thomas Rein steel string of perfect old growth straight grained Brazilian and German Spruce top. Have had it for 20+ years. Questions: 1. Does Thomas Rein make many steel string instruments? 2. How do I go about determining the value of this instrument? I tried to make contact with Mr. Rein over 10 years ago but I remember him being very busy and I do not want to trouble him again so my query here. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Guitar Gallery (www.guitargal.com) has a few Thomas Rein steel strings for sale. You can check them out to gauge pricing.

Tom currently builds predominantly steel string guitars, and earlier in his career had more concentration on classical guitars and lutes. I believe he did originally get into instrument building and apprentice with a luthier in Kentucky that built steel string guitars to my recollection.

I think sponsor Larry Pattis may know him. Drop him a note.

Not a single luthier (myself included) doesn't want to field these kind of questions personally. Give Tom a call -- I promise you that he will be delighted to speak with you.

Thanks to all! Feel free to comment more if you have suggestions.
I'll send him a quick 'touchbase' query on his webpage as he does not furnish a phone number. Thanks. |
