Default Outdoor Ukulele Guitar?

Has anyone tried Outdoor Ukulele (Bend, Or) newest 6 string guitar?
Would love to get some feedback on this little guitar.
I have their tenor outdoor Ukulele which sounds great.
Not sure about the guitar version.
Thanks.

I have no direct experience with their brand new guitar but have played their ukulele a couple of times. You will find some comments in this recent thread from page 2 of the Carbon Fiber room: https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...=578601&page=1

Appropo of nothing, I once lived in San Rafael and commuted into the city. Then moved further north to Petaluma. Then moved really north to Alaska.....

Me too, Evan. In my Cessna 177 on the way to the buyer in Tacoma with a side trip to see Mount St. Helens from the air. Still awesome after all these years....

We have retired Alaskan friends now living in Bend and have visited them a few times (6½ hour drive). I taught workshops twice at a ukulele festival there that they were involved with. If we can ever get over that way again, I'll try to arrange to meet the Outdoor Uke folks. I'm still not in the market, though. No need for a travel guitar anymore, with Emerald X7's in the quiver.

Well, I pulled the trigger. I just ordered an Outdoor Ukulele Guitar!
I do have a CA Cargo, which I love as a travel guitar but was looking for something that wasn’t as costly to take to the beach and camping.
And it’s a nylon string!
Not expecting to be ‘cargo’ wowed but this just be perfect for kicking around with.
Yep, I’m excited.
I’ll keep you posted

the Outdoor guitar came last night.
It’s cute. The tone is decent.
What isn’t good is the action. Way high for me.
1/4 at the 9th fret, 5/16” at the 12th fret.
I am a stickler for low action and this is far from good.
I have contacted Outdoor Ukulele to see if perhaps I got a dud.
Not sure if it’s a keeper with such crappy action.
Again, I’ll keep you posted.

Lucky;

Thank you for the update. Is there any way for you to adjust the action?

That's a bummer. The one piece construction of the guitar now seems a bad idea to me. There is not even a saddle which you can sand off (or replace if you go too far).

I find it hard to believe that even the least expensive of guitars would not have some way of action adjustment. I'm almost tempted to buy an Outdoor Guitar just to see if there was some homemade action fix. Almost.........

Don't these have a removable neck to facilitate changes when the cast-in frets eventually wear? I too would be interested to hear what Outdoor Uke has to say.

If composite instruments come out of the mold wrong, it is tough (or impossible) to fix action issues or do anything like a neck reset. They are either right and stay that way forever, or are bad forever.

Update: I returned the Outdoor Guitar to them so they could see what they could do to lower the action.
There is no way to adjust the action on this cute little guitar.
After some back and forth with Scott (who is a real sweetheart), the best they can lower the action is around 3.50mm on the Low E string. The one I sent back was actually just a bit higher than that, but 3.50mm is just too high for my liking. They gave me a refund.
I am disappointed as I really wanted this little guy to work out.
I will say that Outdoor Ukulele is a very reputable company that cares about their customers. I got personal attention. That goes a long way.
5 Stars for customer service that's for sure.
I do love my Outdoor Carbon Tenor Uke and was hoping the guitar would be just as good.
I think I'll just get myself a nice (and cheaper) Guitulele instead. Now I get to research that.
Hope this helps you guys. If you are ok with high action then this little carbon guitar is a sweet thing.

I second it... Scott is a standup guy who is living out his dreams. High praise for his ukes and hope he can sort the guitar issues. Gotta root for a company in Bend Oregon doing such innovative instruments for us common folks at the low end of the market!! There is something liberating about an instrument that is so tough and inexpensive that sounds great and can go anywhere at a reasonable price.

I can honestly say play/fun/price performance is off the charts when my nieces and nephews show up which range from 2 to 12 and want to join in the uke fun! No worries leaving around the house and re-stringing when things get a little "Townsend" should I say with the playing. :-).

Glad that they stood behind the product and took care of you, and I'm always sorry when an eagerly anticipated instrument does not work out for someone. But I have to ask: Were you comparing to typical steel string action dimensions? Nylon strings swing in a much wider arc and the strings must be higher. I play ukulele a lot, and the action simply must be higher to work.

Good point Earl49. The typical action for nylon string guitars is...

1. Classical nylon string
low E: 4 mm
high E: 3.2 mm

2. Flamenco nylon string
low E: 3 mm
high E: 2.5 mm

My X7 Nylon was set up as spec 1. I lowered the action according to spec 2. There is absolutely no buzzing yet so I might have gone a little lower.
