Every time I see at this guitar I wish I hadn't sold it.
It's such a nice guitar and easy to play.

Would you say this leans more classical or crossover?

In 1) feel, 2) tone

?

Hi, thanks for your interest. I would say the following, assuming that "classical" refers largely to what might be regarded as traditional "Spanish" specs.

1. Feel:

Nut width: I would say it kind of meets both in the middle. The nut width is narrower than the "standard" 52mm (this one is ~49mm), but not quite reduced to the 1 7/8" that I think is fairly "standard" for a crossover (~47.65mm).

Neck profile: The neck also is kind of a marriage of the two, with a slight D / U profile, but not as pronounced in the shoulders or chunky that I would attribute to a traditional "Spanish" guitar.

Scale length: This one is a 655mm. A little long perhaps in comparison to what's become "standard" at 650mm, but not as long as some traditional Spanish designs that are in the 660-664mm range.

String height: The string height on the McGill currently is about 3mm - 2.5mm from bass to treble. I find this zone to be pretty ideal, but a traditionalist classical player may think this is pretty low.

2. Sound:

Bracing: this guitar uses the Turbo bracing, which I believe is the same bracing as McGill's standard classical guitars. It being a unique system, you could say it's a departure from tradition.

I don't mean to be unhelpful, but it's easier for me to speak to the specs, and how they may differ from something that is very traditionally Spanish. My personal feeling is that it really does capture the vibe of both spectrums of nylon string. Even the cutaway is a drop-shoulder, which some may feel is a compromise between the aesthetics of tradition and the function of freeing up some higher frets. Personally I feel that it's at home with all kinds of music.

Thanks again for your interest and let me know if you have any other questions.

Doesn't the fingerboard also have a slight radius to it to facilitate easier barre chords?

Thanks TimL, forgot to mention that. I don't have a way to measure it but it is a very slight radius to my feel.

Hasbro- I'm sure TimL would be a good resource too in terms of opinions on this guitar.
