Default Can this quote be attributed to anyone?

I did a google search and didn't come up with the originator.

"The fretting hand is the brains and the strumming hand is the soul."

It's included in a book course I am going through to improve my strumming skills.

Thanks!

Someone else might know it, and it's originator, as "the left hand is what you know... the right hand is who you are."

Lots of soul in the fretting hand, in certain ways more than the picking hand.

"The left hand plays the notes; the right hand makes the music." Such I was told by an excellent classical guitarist.

That’s an excellent way of putting it.

Unless, of course, you play left-handed. But we don’t care about what kind of mischief those pesky southpaws get themselves into! I mean, just imagine how much great music that left-handed Paul McCartney might have been able to write if he’d only learned how to play guitar correctly!

.

Sorry..... I couldn’t resist.

The left hand is the fuel. The right hand drives the truck.

I use a variation with my students: the right hand makes the sound, the left hand modifies it. No attribution for the original quote, however.

I knew I had very little brains, now apparently I have no soul...

"In terms of guitar playing, the left hand is depressing and the right hand is very picky."

Yes, the left hand is just fretting all the time... "Am I doing this right or wrong? Oh, I just don't know..."'

Meanwhile the right hand is saying "Oh for chrissakes just get a grip!"

Right hand is pronunciation, left hand is vocabulary.

Unless you fret with both hands, and that's just messed up...

You can’t have one without the other.
