Here's another test of the MV88+, using Howard's idea of the mic at the amp, instead of recording the room sound. The mic was about 8" from the amp. Mic setting was on "loud," EQ was set flat. The mic handles that fine, but could some EQ would help.

A goofy camera angle, due to using the short cable that came with the MV88+ kit. I put the iPhone on another small tripod, angled towards me; the mini-tripod that came with the kit was holding the mic, angled at the amp.

I have ordered a 6' lightning extension cable, which will allow me to get the mic by the amp and still have the camera in a decent position.

Each test I do with the MV88+ has given me much better results than the onboard mic on the iPhone. I think this will be a worthwhile addition to making easy videos.

Doug,
I CAN place it independently of the phone....maybe 6 feet away with the extension wires I bought.

I guess I’m not speaking coherently since my pneumonia...:-]

Hi Doug,
Is this remote enough for you? I took the picture with my phone if it's not obvious:-)

Actually closer to 12' at least.

Ah, yes, so you have the plus version, so that's perfect. Mine (original version) plugs directly into the phone, sounds great, but you can't have it up close and the camera far enough away for a picture (unless may it can also use an extension cable? I don't have such a thing to try). The newer version sounds like the ideal solution. I have a 2-meter cable (I think that's what it is) for the Raspberry mic, which is enough, tho I've mostly been using the Apogee Duet with iOS stuff, so I can run any mic cable length I need and use any condenser mic(s) I want.

Hi Doug,
No, I have the basic unit:

Shure MV88 Portable iOS Microphone for iPhone/iPad/iPod via Lightning Connector, Professional-Quality Sound, Digital Stereo Condenser Mic for Vloggers, Filmmakers, Music Makers & Journalists https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010W6W8OW..._WuJMEb3DK7AY4

I just searched for whatever cables would connect it so I had some latitude.

Sorry to be dense :-) That's one long cable... I didn't know you could actually have a lightening cable that long!

Thank you guys for not only keeping this thread alive, but by adding so much info. I had sort of gone away once I got my compatibility questions answered.

As Jim said, I can't find it anywhere due to being back ordered so in the meantime I bought a cheaper mic from Zax sound an SF666-pro. It does come with a 6 foot cord and a tripod stand. I have tried it a little and it seems OK, I plan on doing more with it this weekend, but it was quite inexpensive so if I am not happy with it, I can still get the Shure which is what I wanted in the first place.

Jim, I fixed all your you tube videos so they can be seen and played now without going to the youtube links.

Thanks again everyone, this will be a valuable resource for anyone else looking at the MV88!

Tom

Well, Cap, you and Rufus have a hit...how will you share the royalties? Seriously, it had a good groove.

Our needs are pretty simple, just a guitar or ten for me, and lots of belly rubs for Rufus. With that in mind, I'm thinking a 60/40 split, since I wrote the song, but he was the muse.

Thanks for the kind words.

It's actually 2 cables. You can see the connection in the middle of the rug.

I also use these cables for my phone charger, but sometimes my phone refuses to recognize them for some reason.

Default Shure MV88plus

This is with my Android OnePlus 7 Pro and the Shure. I also have my Elite Acoustic D6-8 amplifying the sound of the guitar, which seems to fill in the low frequencies that are otherwise missing from the guitar. I bought a long USB-C to micro-USB cable on AliExpress so that I could put the mic closer to me and the guitar. It works great!
