Default Does this guitar exist?

I have GAS. Help me identify what I want to buy.

-Comfortable to play for an extended time while standing. Lightweight, easy on the shoulders. Probably not a dread.
-Martin or Martin-esque sound (I do not like the Taylor sound). Good bottom end.
-Can do it all. Hard strumming on Fishin’ In The Dark and finger picking Leader Of The Band.
-Primarily played plugged-in so designed with a pickup in mind (like a Taylor or Takamine). I have Baggs Anthem in my Martin D40 and am not pleased with it.
-1 3/4 nut
-2 1/4 bridge spacing
-Toward the meatier side for the neck. I have big hands.
-$1000-$3000 street price (used or new)
-Can buy off the rack / not custom (want it now)

I have my own ideas in mind but want to consider what I may be missing. Thanks!

A Martin 000-18 which has been likened to the "Swiss Army Knife" of Martin guitars. A cheaper alternative to the 000-18 (IMHO), is the Yamaha FS5, which I own. It is half the price but just as good. I think it has a bit more overtones whereas the 000-18 has more low-end bass.

Just my suggestions.

Martin 000/OM of your sound preference. Mine would be 000-28.

Larrivee L-05 if you like Mahogany B&S
Larrivee L-03R or L-09 if you like Rosewood
I've not played the L-40 so I can't comment on that model but I have OM-40s in Hog and Rosewood and they are excellent so I'd check out the L-40 as well.

I was also going to say a Larrivee "L" body in some form. If you're a Martin fan but don't want a dread the J-40 or a harder to find 0000 12 or 14 fret model might work for you?

It sounds like you've described the Yamaha FSX5 as a workhorse gigging guitar.

Yes, this one and it has a fabulous pickup system in it. Most of the rest don’t have pickup as the OP has requested.

Yep...that would certainly work.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. In addition to my D-40 I have a 000-17SM. I love it, but when you really attack it there's a muddiness that I don't like. But it has all the other qualities (lightweight, nut width, bridge spacing). I have a K&K PM in it. I read once that the A-bracing on this might contribute to the lack of clarity when hard strumming. Hence my search for a replacement to this.

The OM-28 MD has been the one on my radar so far, but I hear so much good about the OM-21s I'd really like to try one. And know I could get it for much less.

And Larrivee's have been in the consideration list for a while. I've never played one, but if they tend to have more the Martin sound vs. Taylor, that's good to hear.

And, I've never played a bad Yamaha. I'll have to look into that...

Keep 'em coming.

Sounds like you're looking for a 000 size Martin. My favorite is my 000-17.

Another vote for the Larrivee L shape. It really does sound very much how you describe in the OP. At the very least, do yourself the service of adding in the the “to try” list.
