Keep us posted on the walnut guitar. I have a walnut taylor 12 fret with a spruce top and maple neck. I'd be interested to know the body size and what cedar does to the equation. Very happy with the wood combo and body size.

You can get into trouble talking about the manliness of Bastogne Walnut because it's a hybrid between English and Claro Walnuts which results in another name for it, "Nutless Walnut" as it is sterile and produces no nuts.

We're going with African Blackwood binding and the top will have Zebrawood radial purling which we'll also use on the rosette.

Thanks!
Mark

Mark! Holy Crow that Walnut is just ridiculous. Mother nature makes stuff no machine could come up with. Really looking forward to watching this guitar come together.

Thanks Travis!

Here are a couple pictures of the rosette in process:

I've been selecting and matching the woods, etc. Here are a couple pictures of what I have so far:

We have the African Blackwood which will be for binding, arm bevel, heel cap,
end graft, maybe the head plate and/or back strap. We're going with Limba wood for the neck (not Black Limba) because it's a great neck wood and the color is right.
We've also selected Gotoh mini 510's in antique gold which has a slight greenish cast that goes wonderfully.

I'll make custom wood tuner buttons from this piece of Black and White Ebony.

I think this is coming together very nicely!

Thanks for viewing
Mark

Wonderful wood choices guys. And those antique gold tuning machines look really nice. I've not seen black and white ebony before. Looks like it will be an excellent match to the tamarind and really tie into the theme. Exquisite!

Thanks Tom and Cigarfan,

It's funny how a little feature like tuner buttons can add so much to the overall look. Just part of the adventure!

That rosette is really fabulous, Mark--probably my favorite of yours yet!

Thanks Nemoman,

Glad you like it! I'll use the same Zebrawood radial purfling around the top.
That spalted Tamarind center captures most of the colors in the guitar which was a fortunate find.

I have some beautiful rosettes on my Hatcher guitars, but I could look at this one all day long.

Really, really nice.

That's the problem...every time I look at the rosettes that Mark is doing I wonder, how the heck to you choose one?!! They are all beautiful!

Thanks!

I don't have too many hard and fast rules with rosettes. I tried to come up with that one Hatcher rosette and experimented around to find it. Eventually I realized I liked experimenting around the most!
