I play a version of this based on the The Dropkick Murphys version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huRwBFmAx78). Their version was way too low for my voice, so I raised the key. (I think they did it in Eb; I play it capo 2 in G.) Here's how I play it:
Oh, [G]how do you [Em]do young [C]Willie Mc[D]Bride Do you [D7]mind if I sit here down [C]by your grave[G]side And [G]rest for a [Em]while in the [C]warm summer [D]sun I’ve been [D7]walkin’ all day and [C]I'm nearly [G]done And I [G]see by your [Em]gravestone you were [Am]only nineteen When you [D]joined the great fallen in [C]nineteen-six[D]teen Well I [G]hope you died [Em]quick and I [Am]hope you died clean Or [D]Willie McBride was it [C]slow and ob[G]scene Did they [D]beat the drum slowly, did they [C]play the fife [G]lowly Did they [D]sound the death march, as they [C]lowered you [D]down Did the [C]band play The Last Post in [G]cho[Em]rus Did the [G]pipes play the [C]Flowers of the [D]For[G]est Note: I don't think the D7 is in their version, but I sure hear it when I play this on guitar. |
