I’ve bought three new Martins since 2000 including a Little Martin in 2006,a new OM35 in 2007 and a custom 000 in 2015. Both the OM and 000 are standard models with both plastic neck and body binding and not a single problem with any of them.

I also have a D35 purchased new in 1977 and it needed binding repaired in 2006. This repair made 29 years after I bought it was fully covered under warranty with zero hassle from Martin. That’s part of the reason I bought 3 more Martins.

Guitar construction is part art, science, physics, engineering, craftsmanship, and wood working all rolled into one. I just spent $300 on a new fret job on my D35 in November and it sounds and plays better than ever. The point is, our guitars require attention from time to time.

1 out of 1. My OM-15 custom the binding failed at the waist. Was repaired by my local shop under warranty. Took about 2 months to get it back. This guitar was from 2017.

Is it OK to use that expression? And, you live in the UK.
I'm guessing you'll avoid builders from Wales?

I won’t dignify that piece of nonsense with a reply, other than to recommend you to consult a dictionary.

Well you're the one using the expression and I suggest you look up the etymology of the word.
If that's cool with you, then rock on.

Is it more likely to happen to a guitar with a narrow waist (like an OM, 000 etc) or is there no pattern related to models.

It’s happened on my D-18, so it’s not limited to narrow-waisted models. I do get the feeling that it’s the dark ‘tortoiseshell’ binding that is more susceptible to shrinkage than the light ‘Ivoroid’ or white binding, although I could be wrong there.

Read my post again - I haven’t said it doesn’t happen with Ivoroid or white. What I said is that it seems to me that the dark, tortoise binding is more susceptible to shrinkage. But I also said that I could be wrong.
