Hey six....besides being a huge taylor fan, I also own a few gibbies. I have a 1967 mahogany J-45 that was one of the last few slope shouldered instruments from the original Kalamazoo factory.
Avoid most all 69 - 89 Gibson acoustics. But the newer ones from Bozeman (1990 and up) seem to made like the older ones. Though my '67 J-45 has really mellowed out nicley over the last three decades or so, I usually keep it always Hi-strung for a crisp backing rhythm guitar sound. Tone-wise....it's a Gibson...not at all like a Taylor or a Martin, but it has it's own sweet voice. I will never get rid of this guitar. It'll stay in the family. Happy hunting! |

I had a 65? J45 and it was a good guitar (made in Kalamzoo) and was well built. It had a mahogony top that was super dark in sound. It really growled! JW

Bummer JohnZ. I travel the country quite a bit and because of my interest in them I always approach anyone playing an older Gibson. I also visit every guitar retailer in any city I am in. I will keep an eye out for yours. You just never know??? And wouldn't it be cool to find it again?

I have a 1998 J-50, which I always thought was just a mahogany J-45 , but I guess I was wrong.
Anyway, it is a beautiful guitar. Just the thing for that Beatle-y sound. |
