Default sunnaudio Stage Di review

I received a Stage Di from sunnaudio yesterday and thought I would
post my early observations. I use magnetic pickups, some passive,
and was wondering how this unit would work with therm.

I will start by saying that the sound in general is very clean while
retaining the natural warmth of the guitar...i.e very transparent.
It just sounds 'right'.

The XLR output was a little hot for balancing out with my mic.
I was complying with the Stage Di volume being set about
2:00 - 3:00 which is within the guidelines of the manual. So
comments are mostly based on using the 1/4" out to a Bose T1
with L1mod2 or L1C

My Goodall with a Black Angel was a superb match...warm, rich and clean.

My other Goodall has a Schertler AG6. Without the mic, it has an output
similar to the BA. It also produced a wonderful sound.
The Bass and treble were generally flat for both pickups.

Now for the AG-6 with mic.....their are many threads on this. I really
did not have any more feedback issues than with my other 5 preamps
(can you say OCD). Dialing back the Bass control to 8:00 - 9:00 did
about as much as all the phase switches and notch filters on the other
preamps. It actually dialed in superbly with my L1mod2. It was a
little more problematic with my L1C (like all the preamps).

I have a M80 in the closet and have not tried it, but I imagine the Stage
would bring out its strengths.

I love the size, the phantom power feature and the sound. An addition
of a phase switch would please me, but I am more paranoid about that
option than others seem to be.

Sunnaudio has an AGF discount going on for the next week or so. This thing
is definitely worth checking out.

I glad hear of another satisfied Sunnaudio user, especially one that isn’t using the Dazzos specifically. The Dazzos were used in a lot of the development phase of the preamps but I have really heard from folks who were playing mags, UST’s and others.

I know the Sunnaudio is my go to preamp even over my Grace Alix unless I have a need for a specific tool that the Sunnaudio preamp doesn’t have. I they build a Stage DI that has boost, mute, and a tuneable notch filter, I am all over it.

I have at this point probably heard every common acoustic pickup out there through SunnAudio devices, and it sounds good with everything, including electric guitar, and there's a new device for that coming, and it sounds great for everyone, with the exception of Taylors. Taylor players just seem to not be able to leave their volume controls alone, so since they don't really need it, I run them direct to the board. My sample size is probably 50 different guitars, and even the cheapest onboard built in pickup system can be made to sound ok through SunnAudio.

When I say made to sound good, I mean just plugging them in. I run everything flat at the board. When an acoustic duo shows up, I just balance them with the blend control. I have the Blender DI in an outboard box.

I’ve been looking at grabbing one of these for my d35.. i am dual sourcing it with dazzos and a sunrise and this sounds like it might be the right fit. A discount would be even more awesome how do we go about getting said discount?

Is that discount link still available or are the preamps simply on-sale now?

Since this thread came back to life, I thought I would mention that I have
been gigging with the Black Angel + sunnaudio Stage DI for a couple
of months now. The sound I get is marvelous. Bass/Treble controls are
almost always basically flat. I have had no feedback issues. When I
substitute another preamp/DI for the Stage, I always feel like I lose
something sonically. As Vancebo said, I too need a boost switch, and
I understand the sunnaudio team is working on that.

But as it is, this is a wonderful sounding preamp/DI
