I always liked the way Neil Young plays a melody on the bass side of the strings. He opens the song with it, plays it again when you would normally play music, and then closes with it. Been doing this my whole career and it seems to go over very well.

Congratulations! For the future, check out videos of Willie Watson since he went solo from Old Crow Medicine Show. Usually just him and his guitar. He has said he really had to work at beefing up the sound, and he does a really good job with fills and riffs and multi-string stuff with a simple rig: Larrivee OM, SM58 for vocals and SM57 for the guitar...and a lot of attitude.
