Default Have You Tried The New D'Addario String Finder?

Interesting new feature on the D'Addario site - you answer a few questions and they find the best strings for you based on your answers selected.

- Select guitar type - I went 'acoustic'.
- Select how many strings on your guitar - I went '6'.
- Select musical genre - I couldn't find 'noodler' so I picked 'singer-songwriter'.
- Select playing environment - I chose 'playing at home'.
- Select tone you're looking for - I went 'clear, defined & powerful' - my SJ-200 is a warm sounding guitar.
- Select primary playing style - I chose 'strumming'.
- Select preferred gauge - I went with 12's

Best match selected for me was ... Nickel Bronze 12-53 Lights.

Just so happens I use them and love them!

Here's the link if you want to try it out for yourself ; https://www.daddario.com/string-finder/

I had already bought a set of NB strings before using the tool, and it recommended them too. I put them on my Taylor 814 and am very pleased with them.

It would be kind of cool if they could add some other guitar details, like body shape and type of woods used, for example.

Interesting, it picked 12-53 LIGHT, XT PHOSPHOR BRONZE, which is probably my preference when it comes to D’Addario strings.

Yes Bruce. Its a cool tool. I really like the free strings using players circle points. I have a bunch of points and right now they have XS strings on for 50% and only cost me 1400 points (not a lot) and includes free shipping (limit 1 set though for the offer) so got the 13 56 to try..i really like the XS strings but usually buy 12s ( prefer them over elixirs). Still use Martins 2.0s and retros and earthwoods on other gits, but can never have enough strings

Interesting. It got my string choice dead right - plain old EJ16s.

Thanks for sharing! I hadn’t seen this before.

It picked 80/20’s for me and I’ve always used phosphor bronze.
I guess I’m going to have to give 80/20’s a try!!

Same for me. So I picked up a couple sets of 80/20s today and put one on my Collings. But they are Martins. Shhhh…don’t tell don’t tell D’Addario.

Kind of useless. Pretty much tells you what you already know.

Keep an eye on the bindings when you use those RR.

Odd as it may seem, there is already a string finder. This is on a pack of strings. D'Addarios, no less!

I've been using EJ-16's for years, and that's what it came up with.

That said, I don't know how accurate this really is, since it asks nothing about the guitar being played aside from the number of strings. Body style, woods, etc, would all come into play...

Odd that you cannot get D'addario 85/15 in the states.

So it's GHS Vintage Bronze or Dean Markley I guesses.
