Default "King of the One Horse Town"

I got to test out an old Otari Tape Machine at Fremont Recording here in Portland the other day. Pretty fun doing things the old-fashioned way! A 1957 Neumann U47 placed in a good spot was all we did. Flat eq and a bit of reverb.

I'll be doing this song for my next record. Thanks for checking it out.

Very, very nice, Chuck! I love your straight forward, laid-back style. This song is a great example...solid melody, cowboy chords. Goes right to the heart.

It's a G harp. I don't really play. I occasionally write a song that seems to call for an easy melody played on harmonica. This song needed it. But my playing isn't anything special. At some point I want to sit down and learn blues harp.

Thanks for the nice feedback. This song is probably as country-ish as I get.

Very nice, Chuck. Good tune, well performed. Thanks.
Amazing what some of the "old" technology can produce, huh?

I'm beginning to feel like I'm a piece of old technology myself, so I have to have a measure of hope for this primitive stuff.

There definitely is something about going to tape. I'm not going to sit here and say I can identify it in a blind test. But with that mic going to tape, the raw track was better than anything we tried to "fix" with eq. That's a cool thing.

I'll be interested to see what happens when we multitrack with it.

Just excellent. Very well done

The U47 looks to be premo shape. Just two questions
#1 what the speed of the tape
#2 and what is flagstaffcharli doin' in Rain Down Town ?

I can say that,,, having spent my misspent youth in the greater Portland Area

Excellent all the way around!

I remember when I was in the Navy, getting a reel to reel tape recorder was quite the rage- and in Japan they were relatively inexpensive- never recorded to one though- I bet there is a lot of production technique involved.
