I could call it more like the Kia or Cherry. I have three FG700S in my living room for sale, all brand new. I was going to keep one as a beater and ended up getting a cracked Seagull for that use. I would reserve the VW reference for the Epiphone Masterbilt Line. It is hard to beat a solid wood guitar for $500 that sounds as good as it does.

Just played my S6 this afternoon. It sure sings in open G tuning. Wow the sustain is gorgeous. But the guitar is the size of refrigerator!

Default I've won...for now

I managed to thwart all desire to purchase the S6 Folk. How? By playing my S6 dreadnought. It is perfect and needs no company.

I bought my first Seagull a few months ago, an Entourage Rustic Parlor. Now, I have a Taylor 814, and I bought the Seagull mainly for travel and camping, but I'm surprised at how often I pick it up at home. It's very comfortable to play, the cedar top gives it a different voice than the 814, and I leave it out of the case most of the time, which I never do with the Taylor. It is really a sweet little guitar and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, probably a classical next around.

I have to agree. My first Seagull is an S6 cedar. I love that guitar! I wanted another Seagull for alternate tunings. I don't have money to buy a new S6 so I check CraigsList. After searching for 2 or 3 months I found an S6 Coastline Folk cedar for $175. I met the guy outdoors at a Dunkin Donuts, so I couldn't get a good idea of how it sounded. I knew it had the same neck and the same 1.80" nut. It's not bad but it lacks the low end "growl" the regular S6 has.

The S6 does altered tunings quite well actually. Try it!

I tried the S6 Coastline Folk with standard D tuning, I was working on the Beatles Yesterday. Even tuned a full step down it didn't have much bottom end. I even tried putting medium's on the 3 bottom strings with no difference. I finally went back to my normal D'addario EJ16's (lights), I figured why put more stress on the guitar than I need to.

I had considered a folk size Gull but I fear I would miss the bottom end I get on thev S6 Original. Tone overruled comfort on that one!

I bought my dad a Seagull S6 for his 87th birthday. He told me he had always wanted to learn how to play, ever since watching cowboy movies as a kid. In the last couple of years he has battled some health issues, but now is getting close to being able to strum through a two-finger chord version of "Home on the Range" (his favorite song). I think it is an amazing sounding guitar, specially considering the price. He loves the guitar.

the only Seagull I currently own is a 12 string Coastline (Cedar/Cherry Lam). I used to have an S6 and they sure are great guitars. hard to find Seagull haters when it comes to tone and craftsmanship

That is so cool. Thank you for sharing that. I would be most interested in hearing of your father's progress and experience enjoying his S6.

Default S6 as Gift

I bought my brother a "surprise" S6 about a week ago. He was not a player and never owned a guitar. he does now. He seems delighted. I hope it sticks.
