Default NGD: Maton SRS808

Hey All! Just wanted to share my new (to me) Maton SRS808! As a fingerstyle guy, I've always wanted to try one but there were no local dealers and it seemed dicey to buy one at new price. Found a used one for slightly less than new and gave it a go.

I really love it. Sounds great, clear and balanced, with really good sustain across the fretboard. Far better for fingerstyle than my Guild OM, which was usually a bit boomy. The blackwood reminds me a little bit of mahogany and also a little of maple. I can see how someone who prefers a Martin or Gibson sound wouldn't prefer it but I don't think for instrumental fingerstyle, I don't think you can beat it.

And of course, it sounds great plugged in.

Here's a small sample:

Congratulations on the new guitar! It'll give you many years of enjoyment. Mine doesn't look as pristine as yours any more, but just keeps sounding better.

Very nice - I do like a Maton, nearly brought one home from Australia, but I was afraid of it sitting on the tarmac at Dubai for a couple of hours, followed by cruising at 35000 feet!

very pretty! I've been tempted to try a Maton due to a certain picker to whom I listen a lot. Congratulations!

Thanks everyone! I'm really loving this guitar and have not regrets purchasing it. I think I'll have to list my Guild OM-150 to prevent any duplications in my modest collection.

Congratulations!

They are built less than a ten minute drive from me, so I'm glad one has gone to the other side of the world and is giving you lots of playing enjoyment.

Yes, congratulations!

My SRS808 was the gateway drug to 4 808s of various timber.

I may have worked a few weeks in the Maton building before they moved in! It could have been a publishing and graphics place.....if not it, then next door!

I do worry this will be me...

However, I do really seem to prefer cedar so I'm not sure I'd be as excited by another model but who knows. I am curious to try a 12-string tho.

After I bought other 808s, I put the SRS808 in to Open G tuning, added a thicker 1st string and use it for slide - sensational!!!

Here I play slide with the the Maton plugged direct to my mixer to highlight the pickup system, just guitar lead > mixer, no gadgets! What a pickup system!
