re-homing a Sigma DM-1 (Korea)
This is my old "100 dollar guitar" - it would be very usable by
someone who doesn't have a guitar.  Should I take it to Salvation Army? There's a couple of teenagers at Church, I considered offering it to them today. Is there some "regular place" where people donate guitars so that people who can't afford one can have one to play? I searched the forum for "donate", perhaps this is the best general suggestion: "There are local shelters, special needs schools and charities in every city." The bridge looked like this back when I was playing it, it stays in tune and doesn't look any different to me now. The guitar has been played very little in the last 18 years or so. I don't want to offer someone junk, is this junk?  -Mike "upstate South Carolina"

I vote for giving it to one of the teens at church. I have done it twice to people at church. One a teen going to college. The other a youth in middle school. Both were thrilled. Made a deal with each of them - when you no longer wish to play forward the guitar to someone else who wants to play and can't afford a guitar. Nothing wrong with Sigma guitars.

I've donated several guitars to the music department at my local High School.
Speak to the teacher in charge, he/she may have a student in mind that would benefit from such a generous gift.

Guitars for veterans would be another nice option.

I didn't come back to this thread soon enough to see the guitars for vets, that's
a great idea too. I looked near me, there's Atlanta GA and Asheville NC. Anywho... I contacted the nearby high school and got in touch with one of the music teachers. I'll take the guitar over to them on Monday. I'm definitely calling the front office right before I go... a scruffy older guy with... something... in a gig bag. Thanks for the ideas everyone... -Mike
