Maybe what you have is a "feature" of that particular guitar.

I think it is most likely an effect of the temp/RH change, but it couldn't hurt to have a pro knock around on it with his knuckles for a loose joint somewhere.

Haha, I thought about that. Can't do anything about that, so I just hope for the best.

Sorry, I forgot to respond to your suggestion. I currently use the Hercules guitar stand. It's kind of similar looking to the ultimate support stand, but the creaking only happens on my authentic.

I think it's the stand too, even though the brand is different. I have had the same thing happen to me. Take the stand out of the equation.

Simple - rub garlic on the guitar neck and may as well do your neck too!

Because it is the Guitar Fairies!

Just heard back from the luthier... the mystery continues. He said after careful inspection he could not find anything wrong with the guitar. The braces are all good, the bridge is stable, etc. The main takeaway is that he thinks it's completely safe to continue playing it and not have to worry about anything. He thinks it may be due to how the authentics are built, like the vintage gloss.

I have no clue what is causing this creaking... weird! Thanks everyone for all your good suggestions. If you have any others, please send them my way.

Aaron

Does it creak when you leave it upstairs? If not, maybe a response to temp and humidity changes?

It does creak when I bring it back from the basement to upstairs. But I don't think it creaks when I just have it upstairs.

Just to rule out the stand (any stand) cause, did you try bringing it downstairs and, rather than putting it in the stand, lay it down on a couch or rug to wait for the creaking sound to appear? Can't hurt to try, and if that works, you'll have saved yourself a lot of time and money getting a luthier involved.

2 cents (borrowed from whomever came up with this idea above).

Does it creak when you aren't home?

The creaking only happens with two of my six guitars. This phenomenon occurs with a specific combination of friction, mass, and resonance.

Consider how easy it is to try my suggestion ... move the guitar between the two locations but lay it on a blanket instead of placing it on the stand. Or lean it against the wall. Or hold it in your hand. As Svea says, simply take the stand out of the equation.

Those are good ideas. I'll try brining it down to the basement and lay it on a rug and see what happens once I get my guitar back. Thanks!
