Tuning your guitar up to ‘g standard’, unless you lighten string gauge, will, eventually cause problems with the added tension.

I get that it brightens the sound.

Just tried it on my rogue rd 80 with a fresh set of 11-52. G was about 30 cents flat from B flat when it broke. Hi E snapped tuning back down. Cheap guitar. Probably some burrs on the tuning post.
