Gigging hat suggestions
As a middle-aged balding guy, I need some gigging hat suggestions. I normally just wear ballcaps but think I need something a bit more "formal." I'm thinking fedora or flat cap but would love any other suggestions.
I used to have my grandpa's fedora....

Dude,
I have so many hats. I'm bald too. I shave my remaining hair and have a close-cropped beard. When I perform, I wear whatever strikes my mood. I don't know what to suggest, just go looking and see what floats your boat.

To me, it would depend somewhat upon the genre of music that you play.

This style of hat has many variations and weights, too. |

A fedora is always a good choice. I sometimes wear a derby or bowler. The derby works well when changing from one instrument to another.

options . . .
Stetson Open Road works with most genres that yer avg. AGF poster would be likely to play.
Beret if you're an ironic hipster type. Costumey top hat if you fall anywhere within the Slash-Marc Bolan spectrum. Newsboy cap if you want to challenge Noddy Holder for Greatest Rock & Roll Voice Ever - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pfh...7slKj&index=33

Just wear what you’re comfortable in.

Go for the Toby Walker look - casual class at its best....

If you decide to shop for a hat, find out your size in centimeters. Use a cloth tape measure and measure around your head just above your ears. 100% fur felt (More costly) resists shrinking, wool felt doesn't. Stetson (USA), Akubra (Austrailia) are manufacturers, they both have several models, colors etc.! There are others of course.
My (7 1/2--7 5/8) is a 60. One can put some thin sponge behind the leather band or shrink it with steam if they're a little too large. Making them larger by stretching, is another matter. There aren't many good hat sources outside large population areas, so I have bought from on-line auction areas, new (NWT), or new condition. I've had good luck! Fog |

Thanks for the suggestions! Ultimately, I'm probably going to go with what my wife likes but I can dream of fooling the audience into thinking I'm younger and better looking than I really am, right?
