Tamyra is my second favorite my favorite Olympic moment of all time (miracle on ice will always be #1). We really needed someone like her now. It will be interesting to see if she is accepted by the talk show circuit. She deserves that for sure!

I missed it, the video above isn’t very illuminating…what did she do that everyone is excited about?!

She just demonstrated pure joy and excitement at winning, her father died while she was high school, but she still has a strong connection there, she was just so emotional and thrilled to represent her country to the fullest. Nothing faked or rehearsed, just honest and pure.

At least that is what is was for me.

Not too much for me.

I love her pride in wearing the flag as part of her celebration.

Oh, for goodness sake. Personality wise she's a bit much for me, that's all. Do we really think 99.9% of the athletes in these games don't have an intense or even overwhelming appreciation their family or their country? She's hardly an outlier.

I just personally don't need people to literally drape themselves in the flag to appreciate their emotion or pride. I see it in the joy they have walking with their teammates in the opening ceremonies, the camaraderie they show their teammates, the dedication they have training for their respective events, or the swelling of pride when they stand on the podium and hear their national anthems being played. She's squarely in the norm. Let's not make more of this than it is.

I’m right with you!
Nowadays it’s not cool to be an American and patriotic. I find her honest enthusiasm quite refreshing.
Yes, I do realize she’s not the only patriotic Olympian.

Huh?

Good grief... apparently that struck some deep rooted nerve in you and you are certainly entitled to rant as you see fit.

I will be nice. I am glad that you can express your opinion.

Default *** PLEASE CUT OUT THE POLITICS ***

Guys, the mods have discussed how often sports threads have been derailed by those who choose to bring up politics or make political, incendiary remarks. The rules prohibit political discussion. Way too many political posts have been removed from this and other sports threads.

We have a lot of members here who enjoy talking sports, including me. Sports and politics have been intertwined during their entire histories, but please do NOT discuss politics here. Let's continue to discuss sports.

If you have anything to say about this warning, please follow the rules and PRIVATELY contact me or any other moderator. This thread is about the Olympics.

I'm often thinking of my neighbor girl for all of the competitors. She lost her mom when she was 11 and we my well see her in the next winter olympics as well as some kids in our ski club facility. Almost daily I see the work our neighbor puts into being as excellent as can be. Our ski club has a ranked ski jumper and two living olympians. Currently a young bike rider who might make the big time. The Heiden family has a history there. More than anything I see and appreciate the work all these athletes do.

In this social media age it's also easy to see who some of these people really are. That's giving me more joy even if their sports are not the most popular and they don't all get medals.

Athing Mu is the first American woman to win 800m gold since 1968. Understatement to say that she is a gifted runner. Glad that both these women are wearing the right colors!
