Default SCGC Custom OMG - Home at Last!

I placed a Custom order with SCGC in September that is scheduled for completion by the end of March. The build was started today. It’s been great working with Carolyn, the SCGC team and Adam at The Music Emporium. Here are the specs & a couple of pictures to start it off.

I was interested in a 0000 style guitar, and the OM Grand fits best We started the process with a discussion about the desired voicing. Descriptors get a bit goofy, but in summary I was looking for: deep, rich, balanced -- more "wet" than "dry". When we felt like we understood each other, they felt they could definitely dial this in using Cocobolo with European Spruce.

Cocobolo Back & Sides (Straight Grained w/ No Sapwood)
European top (No Run-Out)
Hide Glue w/ Adirondack Braces
1-3/4” nut – (Standard)
2-1/4” bridge spacing
Koa Bound Body, Neck, & Peghead
Koa rosette
Purfle combo border
Nickel Waverly Tuners w/ Ebony Buttons
Blank Fingerboard – with an inlay @ the 12th fret

Dimensions
Body Length 20"
Body Depth 3-3/8" - 4-3/8"
Lower Bout 16"
Waist 9-3/4 "
Upper Bout 11-5/8"
Overall Length 20-1/16"
Number of Frets 21
Frets Clear of the Body 14

This is going to be great, Paul! I love my OM Grand. And if I ordered one as a custom, it might have the exact same specs as yours. I look forward to watching the progress on this!

Pure awesomeness!

Harry Tuft founded the Denver Folklore Center in 1962 and was looking to do something special for the DFC's 50th Anniversary. He spoke to Richard Hoover about a custom OM, something a bit deeper than SC was currently producing. The deal was struck, and when the guitar came off the line Richard was so impressed that he made the model the newest member of the SC lineup, calling it the OM Grand. Here's Harry with his

Whoa, Paul! Great specs... particularly the 2 1/4" string spacing, clean and clear fingerboard, and Koa bindings. Take a look at the Italian/EIR Koa bound Santa Cruz OM over at Redwood Acoustics for an example of how beautiful these 3 attributes look on a completed guitar if you haven't already. This is going to be an awesome guitar. OMG indeed...

GL, partner.

I played an OMG in this same exact wood combo at Sylvan a couple years back and it was my favorite Santa Cruz of the bunch they had in there. I remember wishing I had the money that day to buy it. I since then have had the chance to play quite a few more OM grand SCGC guitars and I really like the model!! Congrats on the in coming custom guitar SCGC is a class act!!

Congratulations on ordering your dream guitar. I am a big fan of Santa Cruz guitars. This one sure sounds like a winner. Looking forward to seeing this one through to the finish line.

Best,
Jayne

Ok, they are teasing me. Carolyn just provided a couple of images of the Koa rosette that will match the bindings. I’m guessing there will be more to see soon.
